PillDrill launches RFID medication system to help supervise patients taking medication

Earlier this year, a company called PillDrill launched an RFID-based drug distribution system designed to help patients manage their medications and monitor their medications. The solution called PillDrill is based on a device called Hub with a built-in RFID reader. Users can attach passive RFID tags to containers such as medicine bottles and medicine packs. The company also offers an RFID weekly medicine dispenser with seven detachable pill containers attached with RFID tags.
Once the user writes the medication plan on the PillDrill website, the Hub will light up and sound when medication is needed, display medication information, and remind the user to take the medication. After taking the medicine, the user can wave an appropriate container on the Hub to indicate.

This information is transmitted to the PillDrill server via a WiFi connection, and then relatives can view it in the app to ensure that the medication is taken correctly. Currently, the PillDrill application only has an Apple version. In addition, relatives or caregivers can also receive this information via email or SMS.
In addition, the system also has a Mood Cube component on which is printed images of five faces. Each face depicts a different emotional state to correspond to the user’s current psychological or pain level: very good, good, fair, not good ,very bad. The patient only needs to slide to select the appropriate label, and the caregiver or relatives can know the status of the patient.

When talking about the reasons for the development of the PillDrill system, the founder Peter Havas said: “His parents are in Australia, and he needs to know whether the parents follow the requirements of the hospital.” cost.

Havas added: “We chose RFID technology because it is easy to use and has been used for many years. Our team has good RFID expertise and does not need to hire external consultants. After many months of testing, the system works well.”
Since its release in April 2016, PillDrill has received positive reviews from consumers.
Currently, the company’s website is selling a complete PillDrill kit, the price is 199 US dollars, including the Hub, 12 RFID tags, 2 weekly dispensers and 1 Mood Cube.
