The oldest and largest railway network in the world-Indian Railways plans to use modern technology to transform railways to meet international standards, the Minister of Railways of India stated in the 08-09 Railway Budget. The modern technologies involved include RFID, GPS and GIS.

This is good news for both the RFID industry and railway passengers. The latter can experience improved quality services, while the former is expected to receive large orders. As we all know, Indian Railways issues contracts worth millions of dollars every year.
