Smart containers will drive new value for customers
In the past few years, supply personnel have been able to track the containers in transit, but they still have no clear control over the contents of the containers. When the contents of the container change, the system is not manually updated immediately to reflect these changes, which will reduce the accuracy of the inventory. In cross-border or cross-border logistics, the main waste of manpower comes from tracking and counting the inventory available on hand, and when most of the responsibility is placed on logistics and front-end operators, the assets are quickly and accurately Confirmation of location becomes very important. However, most of today’s processing methods are to use a lot of manpower to solve, or because there are other more important goals, so it ignores the importance of the inventory needs to be found quickly and accurately.
The important technology of smart container is that it can automatically track assets and inventory, and provide accurate information to supply chain managers or operators. Before shipment, the supplier provides low-cost passive labels to stick on the goods. When the supplier installs in the container When loading or unloading, the smart container must be able to automatically read the information on the label, and then transmit it to the back-end ERP system via satellite communication, wireless communication or memory card to provide correct and timely inventory or asset information; in addition, it can also transfer Messages are written into active tags. Through active readers, the information in the container can be obtained anywhere without opening the container. The integration of active RFID and passive RFID is the first application to meet the technical standards and requirements of the US Department of Defense to help soldiers accurately, efficiently and automatically obtain information about transporting materials on the battlefield.
The Best Star Product of the Year Award affirms Taiwan’s R&D strength
The RFID Journal LIVE! conference, an annual RFID event, was held in Orlando, USA from April 27th to 29th. Many RFID manufacturers from Taiwan Province also attended the exhibition.
RFID Journal LIVE “Best in Show” Best Star Product Award Convention has always been based on the opinions of all attendees, the RFID Journal editorial team, and the conference jury. Finally, from the list of 10 shortlisted manufacturers, according to the innovative application value of the product in the market In other aspects, select the most outstanding products. This international exhibition also follows the usual practice. The RFID smart container jointly developed by Taiyang Technology and its partner ODIN Technology won the “BEST IN SHOW” award, which is the best star product award this year. It also shows that smart containers are in the RFID industry. The output value to be created.

It is worth sharing with the people of Taiwan that the general manager of Taiyang Technology Yan Xinjie and the CEO of ODIN Technology Patrick Sweeney came to the stage to receive the award (see Figure 1). Through the affirmation of the international awards, Taiwan’s R&D energy and technical strength have become the world’s now focus.
International-level technical cooperation and market opportunities
Taiyang Technology, which has been one of the leading manufacturers of UHF RFID readers in China, seeks technical cooperation with ODIN Technology because we think about how to strengthen the “RFID smart container application for single item tracking”. This enhances market opportunities for both parties.
We believe that existing supply chain managers and operators lack visibility into the movement or transfer of important assets. In fact, the two most common inventory tracking methods are mainly manual periodic inventory and barcode scanning. The intensity of scanning time and error rate are the main factors that affect the accuracy of data. The improvement of logistics management process and the increase of complexity have gradually reduced labor costs and can track inventory accurately and efficiently. In the past, hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on pursuing this goal, and ODIN and Tayang’s self-Inventory Smart container technology are solving this problem.
Taiyang Technology’s UHF RFID Reader
As early as 2007, Taiyang Technology has successfully designed the RFID reader RU-813 that complies with the Gen2 certification of the EPCglobal International Standards Organization. The latest UHF RFID readers exhibited this time include the RU-859 reader module and the RU-822 fixed reader. Its exquisite shape, built-in antenna, and The IP network interface is all integrated in a single chassis and formed into one piece, which has also attracted the attention and inquiries of on-site customers (see Figure 2). Tai Yang’s expertise and experience in the RF field, as well as the ability to design and manufacture integrated radio frequency identification (RFID) hardware devices, are of course the advantages of Tai Yang’s ability to cooperate with major international manufacturers.

ODIN’s Blackbird™ RFID technology patent
ODIN owns the Blackbird™ RFID technology patent smart container (SMART Container), is currently the industry’s first effective solution to provide global container logistics single item tracking through RFID. The system is characterized by its lightweight equipment, easy and quick installation, and the installation can be completed in less than one minute. The Blackbird technology standardizes the connection of the Self-inventorying smart container in the central control unit (CCU) and the extended wing antenna. This allows the CCU, the heart and brain of the system, to centrally control and highly stabilize its computer system.

Combination with an accuracy rate of up to 99.9%
In the early days, so-called smart containers could only use very limited environmental information such as temperature or electronic security seals to ensure the location and safety of the containers. The new smart container developed by Tayang and ODIN provides information The ability to automatically monitor the goods in the container from the shipping end to the destination, and through the global satellite positioning system, customers can track the location of the container anytime and anywhere through the computer mouse to connect to the web page, and clearly grasp the contents of all the goods in the container , To ensure that the goods arrive at the destination safely. At present, the SMART Container, which is the combination of the two technologies, has an accuracy rate of up to 99.9% through passive electronic tags. The RFID reader and the overall mechanism housing installed in the Blackbird Wing on both sides of the container are produced by Taiyang Designed to provide.

Diversified and convenient product development is the driving force
The Self-inventorying smart container, which has won the attention of the conference, is powered by a central control unit (CCU) and a set of long-lasting rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, and can be set with a deep sleep function to support power extension the use of. The central controller also contains a sensor, which is responsible for collecting data, such as sensors for light, heat, humidity, and vibration. The most important of these is that the central controller provides multi-platform transmission functions to facilitate active RFID, satellite, mobile phones and Wifi to receive messages.
Figure 6. Smart Control Unit (as shown on the left) and Smart Wing (as shown on the right)
The smart container central controller (CCU) and wings (Wing) are designed to have super toughness, record time and durability, and highly waterproof. Blackbird technology-Wing system is designed to naturally nest into the recesses on the two sides of the container without affecting the space that the original container can accommodate. Following ISO standards, each wing (Wing) is connected to the central controller or wing (Wing) and Wing (Wing) are connected to each other, both are connected by IP67 waterproof Ethernet cable (CAT5).
To evaluate the needs of future application scenarios, Smart Container has the following important features:
Take it with one person: It can be carried easily by one person.
Ability to refurbish styles: Smart Container can meet the needs of containers and quickly adjust the styles needed.
Power management: The battery can last for more than one year without charging.
Flexible communication capabilities: integrated with active RFID, data can be transmitted via satellite and wireless communication.
Miniaturized appearance: does not affect the storage space of the original container.
Therefore, diversified smart containers are also provided accordingly, as shown in Figure 7.
