The official postal operator of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Post Office, announced that it has signed a contract with Intermec to use Intermec’s RFID tracking solution in its mail delivery system. This system will upgrade the existing solution with RFID equipment, using Intermec’s CN3 mobile computer and IP30 handheld RFID reader.

The Saudi Post Office has invested heavily in introducing advanced technology for its Postal Delivery System (PDS), which integrates CRM mail sending, sorting machines, navigation systems and automatic vehicle positioning systems.
The previous PDS scheme of the Saudi Post Office required the use of three separate devices: a handheld device with an RFID reader, automatic vehicle positioning hardware for tracking vehicles, and an in-car personal computer for displaying navigation. Intermec’s CN3 computer combines all these three features to make the whole system simpler and more efficient.
“When post office employees send emails, they can use Intermec CN3 to synchronize and update the database, instead of returning to the post office at the end of the day,” said Majed Bin Anzzan, the e-commerce director of the Saudi Post Office. “In addition, the new plan will greatly improve Customer satisfaction, because detailed shipping information can be displayed on the post office website”.
