1. Project background:

  The Hong Kong Jewellers Association decided in 2006 to introduce RFID systems for its more than 400 member companies for jewelry management. The purpose of adopting this system is to achieve single-item jewelry management, realize rapid inventory, rapid quotation and intelligent sales management of jewelry, so as to enhance the core competitiveness, management ability and service level of member enterprises under the Hong Kong Jewelers Association.

Second, the selection process:

  In order to accelerate the development and application of the RFID jewelry management system, the Hong Kong Jewelry Association entrusted the technical department of its affiliated member enterprise (a jewelry manufacturer in mainland China) to set up an RFID jewelry management system project team, which is under the cooperation of three well-known jewelry management software companies in Hong Kong. The software development work of the project has been completed. The difficulty lies in the integration of the hardware system (the key is the selection of the reader). The project team put forward the following requirements for the required reader:

1. Fixed reader: high power, good anti-collision performance and low power consumption are required for jewelry inventory.

2. Mobile reader: The reading and writing speed is fast and stable, and it is used for jewelry quotation.

3. Table top reader: used for electronic label data entry.

4. All readers should be reasonably priced.

In view of this, the project team has successively tested the readers from many companies in the United States, Canada, Singapore and Taiwan, but the test results are not satisfactory. The main problems are as follows:

1. The anti-collision performance of the tested fixed reader is poor. The project team initially required that each reader under test could stably parse 150 electronic tags, but none of them could achieve the desired effect.

2. The speed of reading and writing data of the mobile reader under test is slow. The mobile reader adopts the scheme of connecting the reader with the CF interface to the PDA. In the application of the RFID jewelry management system, there is a lot of data information in the electronic tag. Therefore, the speed and Stability requirements are high. However, the reading and writing speed of the tested readers cannot meet the expectations of the project team. At the same time, when used on the PDA platform, the tested readers often cause the PDA operating system to crash.

3. The table-top reader under test is slow in reading and writing data, and is sensitive to the discreteness of the card.

4. The price of each reader tested is artificially high and the power consumption is large.

After the project team contacted our company, our company proposed a solution based on YX9201 high-power reader/writer, YX9036CF mobile reader/writer and YX9036SR table-top reader/writer according to the needs of the project team, three readers They have the following characteristics:

1. YX9201 high-power stationary reader:

● RF output power above 4W;

● Fully support all mainstream electronic labels;

● Excellent multi-label anti-collision performance (the project team used 150 electronic labels to test the anti-collision performance, and the results were satisfactory);

● The typical label parsing speed is 30~50 sheets/second;

● Single 12V power supply, low power consumption, support multi-reader networking;

2. YX9036CF mobile reader:

● Advanced electronic label anti-collision processing algorithm, high reading rate;

● Built-in transceiver antenna, support CF II specification, virtual serial port mode;

● It can be directly connected to PDA, which is convenient for data entry management;

● Use special hardware to accelerate the reading of tag data (the actual test reading speed of the project team is satisfactory);

● Stable and reliable operation under the PDA platform (the project team actually has satisfactory stability after repeated tests for a long time);

3. YX9036SR table top reader:

● Single 12V power supply, advanced electronic label anti-collision processing algorithm, high reading rate;

● Built-in transceiver antenna;

● Support RS232 interface, multi-reader networking;

4. The above three readers have good cost performance, and all provide dynamic link library (DLL) and demo software source code to support secondary development.

3. Implementation results:

  Using our company’s YX9201, YX9036CF, YX9036SR three readers and corresponding antennas, the user feedback for the trial operation of the RFID jewelry management system is as follows:

1. Speed ​​up jewelry inventory: 6,000 jewelry inventory time is reduced from 4 working days to 0.5 working days;

2. Improve the efficiency of jewelry quotation: The scheme of using CF interface reader to connect with PDA, from the traditional special person and professional quotation to ordinary employees can make quotations, which greatly saves the human resources of jewelry enterprises and reduces the risk of misjudgment;

3. Realize intelligent sales management: the use of intelligent shelves can automatically identify the number of jewelry in the shelves, reflect the sales situation of the day in real time, and provide great convenience for management planning.
The results of the trial operation of the RFID jewelry management system have been generally praised by member companies under the Hong Kong Jewelers Association.
