Taiwan uses RFID to enhance campus security
[ad_1]
In line with the “Executive Yuan’s 2005 Science and Technology Strategy Conference” resolution to strategically promote Taiwan’s radio frequency identification technology (hereinafter referred to as “RFID”) industry, the trial of “Public Field Pilot Application”, and the “Ministry of Education” to apply RFID technology to campuses Safety. In addition to discussing the application of RFID technology to campus security, this program also assists schools in the management of administrative affairs and campus asset security.
Figure 1. “Ministry of Education” uses RFID to strengthen campus security plan framework
Integrate colleges and universities in parallel
The “Ministry of Education” RFID technology application began in September 2008. The plan is expected to last until the end of 2009. The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology established the Planning Office to be responsible for the overall planning, planning, resource allocation and promotion of the plan, and to discuss the application of RFID technology. , and through the integration of colleges and universities, RFID campus security system research and development, construction and testing.
For the establishment and implementation of the plan, colleges and universities will be selected to assist in the promotion of the plan. At this stage, they are Kaohsiung University, Taipei University of Technology, Pingtung University of Science and Technology, Kaohsiung Normal University, Taitung University, Asia University, Feng Chia University, Chenggong University, Chung Cheng University Nine colleges and universities, including universities, assist the plan.
In the plan, 6 national primary schools and 3 special education schools will be built (as shown in Table 1). Based on the issues related to campus security, the collection and evaluation of RFID security requirements will be carried out, and equipment construction and data will be carried out. Collecting, exchanging experience, discussing privacy rights, electromagnetic wave effects, etc.; planning RFID campus pilot plans and implementing campus RFID security construction operations, and completing RFID campus security application research.

Table 1. “Ministry of Education” 1997 Campus Security Application RFID to Assist Student Safety Construction Plan” List of campus construction
Ensuring proper protection of students on campus
The situational application projects built on the national primary school campus and the special campus are: necessary situational construction such as going to and from school and school whereabouts notification service, student body temperature abnormal management service, and dangerous area management service. In the construction of optional scenarios, it includes: books and materials management services, valuable instruments and equipment asset management services, campus visitor management services, self-planning services and other topics.
Campuses can improve campus safety through the construction of situational models to ensure that students are properly protected on campus. Formulate the contextual system specification, information platform specification, system architecture, data encryption, communication mode and analysis related control interface, and refer to the relevant software and hardware specifications of the RFID system to conduct a complete evaluation, and then propose a general contextual construction plan for schools at all levels.
To evaluate the feasibility of applying RFID security management system on campus, we will consider all the doubtful parts, clarify the parts that may cause harm to personnel, provide a set of perfect specifications and structures, and build the experience of each plan execution team into the situation. communicate.
Various campus situation RFID application modes
School children’s whereabouts notification service for school children safely:
When the school gate sensor senses that students enter and exit through the school gate equipped with RFID Reader, it will send the information to the student security system, and the security system will send the information of students entering and leaving the school gate (on/off school) to the server side. The inquiry system can inquire about the students’ entry and exit (entry/exit) situation, and can also notify parents of students through SMS about their children’s entry and exit from school.
Hazardous area management services:
The RFID Reader is set up in the dangerous area of the school. When it senses that a student has entered a preset dangerous area such as: construction site, top floor, etc., the sensor will send a message to the student safety system, and the safety system will immediately notify the guards and teachers.
Abnormal body temperature check for school children:
When students feel unwell, wear sensors for temperature sensing. The sensors on the students will regularly report the temperature status. If the student health system judges that the body temperature data returned by the sensor is abnormal, it will immediately issue an alarm to notify the medical staff proceed to follow-up.
Campus Asset Protection Features:
Place active tags on important campus equipment. When important school equipment is borrowed, it will be recorded when the equipment passes through the place where the RFID Reader is set. The system detects the passing area, reducing the trouble of losing equipment or being carried out of the school.
Book and material management services:
Students can use the sensors they wear with them to borrow books from schools. Schools can also manage the borrowing status of books through the sensors in the borrowing process. Parents can also use the system to understand their children’s reading interests.
Campus Visitor Management Services:
When a visitor enters the campus, he/she registers with the guard and wears an active tag. The information returned by the tag can be used to know the area that the visitor enters at any time. Once the visitor enters the unauthorized area, the guard will be immediately reported to the police.
Helping children with special needs to be safe at school
Children with special needs are still in a disadvantaged position in learning. Each child has special circumstances that affect their ability to live and learn. In all aspects, the group of special education children is the most in need of assistance. The application also introduces relevant learning methods, so that children with special needs can have auxiliary tools when learning. In addition to the national primary school’s commute and school whereabouts notification service, student body temperature abnormal management service, and dangerous areas, the situation is established. In addition to the establishment of necessary scenarios such as management services, there are also colleges and universities teams providing relevant construction scenarios for the needs of special education schools as follows:
1. Tracking of students’ garbage disposal routes:
In special education schools, teachers will still ask students to assist in taking out garbage, but when students go to take out garbage, from the time the students leave the classroom to the time they return to the classroom, the teacher cannot grasp the whereabouts of the students, and the students may wander around the campus , or incorrectly dispose of rubbish in the landfill.
If equipped with RFID tags and RFID tag readers to detect the movement of students, and set up cameras in the garbage dump, the face recognition system can be used to determine whether the students quickly and correctly take the garbage to the garbage dump and return to the classroom immediately.
2. Evaluation of cleaning practice:
Special education schools guide students to work placements, one of which is cleaning work, such as mopping floors. If an RFID tag reader is installed on the mop and passive RFID tags are placed on the floor tiles, it can sense and record whether the students have actually dragged each floor tile during the practice, and give the students immediate feedback to help their learning.
3. Nutritious lunch catering system:
Students with special needs will need school personnel to help divide dishes when they enjoy a nutritious lunch, but the amount of food required by each person and special dietary habits (such as not eating beef or being allergic to a certain food) are different. Use the student’s RFID tag to record the required The amount of food and personal eating habits, and a reader is installed at the meal preparation table to read and display the relevant information of the student, which can help school personnel to help students more efficiently.
4. Mobility Impairment Assistance:
Generally, there are places in the school campus that are inconvenient for people with mobility impairments, such as bathrooms. If some students with mobility impairments go to the bathroom, they may be locked in the bathroom due to their mobility impairment, and there is no one around to ask for help. situation, leading to unpredictable and dangerous situations.
If the schoolchildren wear active RFID on their bodies, when a schoolchildren is trapped in a confined space such as the toilet, the teacher can detect the position of the schoolchildren through the detection system, and arrive at the scene as soon as possible to help the schoolchildren solve the problem.
Conclusion and future work
Through the implementation of this plan, it will drive the development of RFID technology on school campuses, provide more creative thinking directions for schools, and strengthen the application of technology in crowd services and personal safety protection. The “Ministry of Education” started RFID technology in 2005. In the research, it is expected to clarify the impact of RFID technology on people, explore and develop relevant campus application models and related specifications within a feasible scope, and promote the application of RFID technology and campus through the concept of shared modules. Safety management methods will be promoted to assist in the lives of special education students in the future. Promote this technology to improve the convenience of campus life, improve the efficiency of administration and management, and allow everyone to enjoy the convenience brought by technology.
