NFC mobile phones replace hotel room keys in Sweden

The world’s first pilot is being launched at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden. ASSA ABLOY, Scandinavian Choice Hotel, TeliaSonera, VingCard Elsafe, and the wholly-owned Venyon subsidiary of Giesecke & Devrient have joined forces to replace hotel room keys with NFC mobile phones.
Technology allows hotel guests to use their mobile phones to check in to the hotel and check out. Guests and staff can use mobile phones to obtain or provide various services. The purpose of the pilot is to obtain feedback from guests and staff who use mobile phones. Before arriving at the hotel, guests can register the hotel room and get the hotel room key directly on their mobile phone. Guests can also get other services through their mobile phones, and use their mobile phones to easily check out when they leave the hotel.
NFC technology can also improve security. If the mobile phone is lost, the access certificate can be revoked remotely and one can be reissued. In this way, it is impossible for an unauthorized person to use a lost or stolen NFC mobile phone.
The pilot will start this week and will last for four months. The plan is to start with the experience gained from the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden, and then make improvements, and then extend it to other hotels, commercial buildings and residential buildings.
Trials of contactless mobile services such as payment, ticket purchase and membership have been successful and are now being marketed. With the success of these pilots, a new service has now been added to the contactless payment industry-mobile keys.
The five companies that provide this service each use their expertise to launch scalable and secure end-to-end solutions to improve customer satisfaction.
