SkyeTek Chief Technology Officer Sayan Chakraborty said that Vail Resorts and SkyeTek collaborated on an RFID pilot project a year ago, and the two parties will soon start another pilot project. Although Sayan Chakraborty said he can’t disclose the specifics of the project yet, Vail Resorts is most interested in using RFID tags instead of barcodes, hoping to use RFID technology to identify lift tickets, realize non-cash payments, and help tourists more easily on the ski slopes. Find relatives and friends on the Internet.
Last ski season, the Steamboat Ski Area in Colorado began using semi-active RFID tags and readers provided by SafeTzone Technologies to help skiers and skateboarders keep in touch on the mountain.
In ski resorts in Europe, high-frequency RFID tags have been widely used for lift tickets (day tickets or season tickets). When the customer shows the ticket in front of the turnstile, the reader reads a valid ID, allowing the customer to wait in line for the lift or gondola. Chakraborty claims that passive tags with longer reading distances can be used to estimate queue time, and disseminate the information at other lifts or kiosks through display screens or other similar methods, so that skiers can know which lift is in real time. The waiting time is the shortest.
The integration of contactless payment functions in season or day tickets provides additional convenience for skiers, Chakraborty explained, “On a ski slope, the last thing people want to do is take off their jackets and look for cash.
Chakraborty emphasized that what Vail Resorts is most concerned about is whether the RFID system has strong protection measures to protect financial data and customers’ personal privacy.
