Ekahau announced the deployment of its real-time location system (RTLS) security solution at Hall Psychiatric Hospital in Tyrol, Austria, to help hospitals use the system to protect the safety of employees and patients.

If the mental illness forensics department of the hospital allows the patient to move freely, the unpredictable behavior of the patient may pose a safety risk to the hospital staff and the patient.

Now, the staff wears Ekahau’s Wi-Fi-based B4 badge. If the staff needs assistance, he/she can press the badge, and nearby colleagues will receive a help request message, which is displayed in the badge as a text On the LED screen.

Ekahau reports that the program reduces the amount of time it takes for staff to deal with emergencies by displaying the location of staff requesting assistance, eliminating the need to view maps and manually dialing for help.

Ekahau’s B4 badge is tracked and located in any brand or Wi-Fi proxy network through the Ekahau RTLS solution, and the use of this Wi-Fi positioning method can achieve room-level positioning accuracy. The badge label contains a unique ID number bound to the employee’s identity.

The Ekahau RTLS solution is implemented by ITH icoserve, which is an Ekahau certified partner. The solution integrates ITH’s ProAct emergency call intelligent management system for complex notification processes.

Ekahau explained that Ekahau’s RTLS system can run on existing Cisco wireless LANs without the need to add additional wired infrastructure.

Hall Clinic, the third largest hospital in Tyrol, has deployed Ekahau’s location-based personnel safety warning solution, which has also been implemented by Innsbruck University Hospital and Hochzirl State Hospital.
