Finnish Railway VR Group is the only railway transportation and logistics service provider in Finland. VR Group and its subsidiary VR Transpoint Logistics Services Company use RFID technology to optimize previous manual operations, while increasing the visibility of inventory and creating opportunities for new business development.
In the process of managing train components and optimizing railway station management, the demand for the identification of passenger and freight locomotives and carriages has been highlighted. In the previous manual process, train component management and information transmission were slow and resource intensive. This makes it impossible to know the status information of the entire traffic flow in time.
In the VR Group’s RFID system, each carriage and locomotive is equipped with two Confidex Ironside™ hard tags for identification. Workers scan each tag with a handheld reader, and then the data is stored and transmitted to the VR system through Vilant software. The carriage is quickly and reliably read through RFID technology, and the various parts of the train are efficiently identified and confirmed, and the data can be transmitted to the data center in real time, so that the overall picture of the vehicle location and utilization rate becomes visible. RFID technology is also used for the order processing process of the railway station, so that the maintenance of each carriage and possible defect information can be immediately presented in the system, which is convenient for further operation and processing.
What items do we mark?
Confidex Ironside™ hard tags are installed on each locomotive, passenger carriage and various freight carriages. A label fixed with industrial adhesive is installed on both sides of the carriage, so that the direction of the train can be obtained by displaying the label on the left or right. The RFID tags used in this project must achieve high durability, high performance, and can withstand various harsh weather and vibration during transportation. Confidex Ironside™ rigid tags perfectly meet the above requirements.
