AeroScout, a leading provider of hospital visibility solutions, announced that Great Ormond Street Hospital, a hospital owned by the National Medical Service Foundation of the United Kingdom, has adopted AeroScout’s asset tracking and management solutions in London, England. The responsible unit of the project is Block Solutions, a local partner of AeroScout, and has extensive medical service experience. Through AeroScout’s real-time location system (RTLS), the hospital’s precious and scarce equipment can be optimized and used. After the initial application, this internationally renowned children’s hospital quickly realized that this project has many advantages. For example, save time, reduce waste, and improve the quality of medical care.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) was founded in 1852. It was a professional pediatric hospital from the beginning, and it has been working hard to find new and better treatments for pediatric diseases. This hospital is also the largest training base for pediatric medical professionals in the UK. A large number of professional pediatric medical workers have been trained and educated here. GOSH Hospital now has 3,200 employees and receives approximately 200,000 patients every year.

Mark Large, Director of the Information Technology Department of Great Ormond Street Hospital, said: “We use AeroScout’s asset tracking solution to help us achieve our overall goal of no waiting, no waste, and zero harm. Hospitals and patients need it as long as they need it. There will be equipment in need so that we can make better use of precious and scarce assets, and at the same time we can better maintain them. We are surprised by the efficiency improvements that AeroScout’s solutions bring us.”

As part of the foundation’s initiative (to comprehensively improve the infrastructure of GOSH Hospital), the hospital decided to start with the positioning of medical assets. Because the positioning and management of medical assets occupies a lot of expenses and time in the hospital. AeroScout’s solution is one of many projects set by the foundation, which can help improve the quality of patient care while meeting the three set goals, namely, no waiting, no waste, and zero harm. These goals are absolutely important to GOSH Hospital, and AeroScout’s solutions support them in the following ways:

No need to wait – critical equipment can be found faster, reducing the waiting time for patients and doctors;

No waste-equipment can be positioned at any time to improve equipment utilization and prevent over-purchasing;

Zero injury-Improved asset management to ensure that medical equipment is maintained in a timely manner and used on demand.

AeroScout’s asset tracking and management solutions are based on Wi-Fi-technology, eliminating the cost of purchasing and applying patented RFID networks. In addition, GOSH Hospital uses ordinary existing Wi-Fi networks to support current projects, thereby reducing the hospital’s project investment.

Using AeroScout’s Wi-Fi RFID tags, GOSH Hospital can track and manage various medical equipment such as dedicated testing equipment and infusion pumps. AeroScout’s MobileView software allows hospital staff to quickly find critical equipment, quickly print reports and manage assets. The biomedical engineering team of this hospital was the original user of this system. They found that the time required for equipment request and the situation where equipment could not be found had been significantly reduced.

Alan Heath, Director of AeroScout’s Northern Europe and South Africa Department, said: “Great Ormond Street Hospital is the world’s leading pediatric hospital and is also a leader in the use of advanced technology to improve medical services. We are cooperating with Block Solutions, and we are so famous. Of hospitals are proud of improving work efficiency and medical quality.”
