Typical case of IoT RFID application: autonomous bicycle rental

In Beijing, Shanghai’s Zhangjiang, Minhang, Sichuan’s Dujiangyan and other places, you can see many “city rental car” outlets. With a user ID card, the entire process of swiping the card and picking up the car can be completed in less than 30 seconds, and returning the car is equally simple. This is another application innovation of RFID in the field of urban transportation in addition to transportation cards.
As a partner of the “Permanent City Rental Car Project”, Hua Hong Jitong and Shanghai Forever Bicycle Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Permanent”), which is controlled by Zhonglu (600818, stock bar), are cooperating with this project. The “last mile” of city traffic.
Fan Heng, general manager of Hua Hong Jitong, told reporters that it mainly involves two RFID devices. One is that each bicycle has an ID number (implemented through RFID technology), which is used to mark the bicycle and lock it on the lock post. When you can confirm the “identity” of the bicycle, the other is a personal user card, which is used to identify the user, so that the management of people and bicycles can be realized.
In addition, there is a network module in each lock column, which transmits relevant information to the background management system in real time, so as to know at any time how many lock columns, how many vacancies and vehicles are available in each branch, so as to deploy in time and control every peak period of car usage. Vacancies and vehicles at each outlet.
The bicycle rental project first started in Zhangjiang in September 2008, when it was in cooperation with the park management committee, and the project did not point to the Internet of Things technology at the beginning. The coincidence with Hua Hong Jitong is precisely because of the discovery of the convenience of RFID for realizing management.
Today, thanks to the promotion of the district government and the park management committee, car rental outlets have spread across Minhang, Baoshan, Pudong New Area, Xuhui District, and Changning District, and have also gone out of Shanghai to some cities in Beijing, Guangdong and Sichuan Province. In the Shanghai area, Minhang District will reach the scale of 20,000 rental cars by the end of July, with a density of 300-500 meters and a branch. It is mainly deployed in the short-parking transportation of subway and bus hubs, as well as communities, commercial circles, banks, and schools. , Agencies, etc.
The Internet of Things technology moves from research and development to the application level, and it depends on whether the application unit has a demand; traditional industries need to be combined with application technology to open up a wider Internet of things application market. Not only is it good for IoT technology companies, but for traditional industries, the application of IoT technology also creates conditions for companies to transform and seek new profit growth points.
Forever bicycle sales reached 2.2 million last year, and the government issued a bicycle rental solution, which can also generate revenue. “Although it has not yet achieved profitability, with the popularization of the project, the benefits will be different with the wider area and larger scale of the project.” Chen Shan said, “Although bicycle rental currently does not contribute much to the profit, we are more optimistic. It is the potential and market space of this model; at the same time, it also provides experience for the shift from a pure bicycle sales enterprise to a service and solution provider.”
If only absorbing RFID recognition technology cannot be regarded as a real Internet of Things application, then in the near future, the city rental car project will also cooperate with telecom operators. “Although it hasn’t started yet, the two parties have been communicating for a long time,” Chen Shan introduced, “This is mainly in the information communication between the outlets and the outlets.” In the future, an information display terminal will be produced at each outlet so that users can understand at any time. The vacancy, vehicle storage, and route information of an outlet, while telecom operators provide a good network environment.
However, just like all good IoT applications, what we are seeing are closed applications in a certain industry, and there is no cross-industry interconnection, even in the same application because of different factors such as regional standards. And there is a “ceiling” for scale expansion. In response to this problem, Chen Shan said, “There is competition in all industries, and in cooperation with the government, the technical level of the enterprise, successful cases, and the background of listed companies have provided a lot of help.” Chen Shan said, “To By the end of the year, we will expand to 10 cities, reaching a scale of at least 5,000 vehicles and 150 outlets in each city.”
