At present, in many countries and regions around the world, there are many vehicle-related application fields such as highway non-stop toll collection, parking lot management, community vehicle access management, bus/train scheduling, vehicle transit supervision, etc.
UHF

Passive RFID technology is showing its strengths. RFID vehicle management system has the advantages of good recognition performance, good management efficiency, high traffic efficiency, high safety performance, and high return on investment.

Table List of Applications of RFID Vehicle Identification and Registration System in Some Countries/Regions in the World

In the RFID vehicle identification and registration system (divided into EVR and EVI), UHF passive RFID tags (usually ISO 18000-6B standard) are pasted on the windshield or body of the vehicle and installed at the main traffic intersection Or a roadside fixed RFID reader will automatically read the unique ID of the vehicle tag, and compare and verify it with the back-end system database information to determine whether the vehicle belongs to the driver, whether it participates in insurance, whether the registration information is updated in time, and each Whether the tax and expenses have been paid, etc.; vehicle label data can also allow municipal departments to better understand and control traffic conditions and traffic patterns.

Well-known integrated service providers engaged in the management of UHF passive RFID automatic identification/registration of vehicles include South Africa’s IPICO, US TransCore, US Alien, US ID Systems and other companies; such RFID integration service providers in China include Shenzhen Xianshi , Jiangsu Ruifu, Shanghai Xiupai and other companies. Mr. John Greaves, vice president of IPICO, believes that especially in developing countries, the situation of vehicle management has become increasingly severe. For example, in some remote areas, relevant departments simply cannot confirm the legality of vehicles. One of the significant advantages of using RFID vehicle automatic identification/registration management system is that the management department can clearly grasp the situation of vehicles passing through a specific intersection within a specific time period.

At present, the unified international standards for EVR and EVI systems are still in a missing state. Among them, the ISO 24535 standard applied to EVR vehicle registration management only describes the basic functions (RFID radio frequency bulletin: such as tag data format, tag read and write performance, data storage and security requirements, etc.), and does not address RFID tags and reading The air interface protocol and other contents of the device communication are clearly defined. In addition, some countries and regions will also use their own standards.

In January this year, the South African Bureau of Standards SABS (RFID Radio Frequency Express Note: is a neutral third-party certification body in South Africa, responsible for system certification and product certification in South Africa) officially released the SANS 24535 and SANS 504 standards. The SANS 24535 standard is based on and supports the ISO 24535 standard, which mainly determines the architecture of the passive UHF RFID vehicle registration and identification system (including the specific provisions for the deployment of UHF RFID tags, fixed/handheld readers, etc.) ; SANS 504 defines the one-way air interface protocol parameters of the RFID system. IPICO’s IP-X UHF RFID technology complies with the requirements of SANS 24535 and 504 standards.

The United States currently has not formulated relevant standards for the EVR and EVI systems. The main reason is the inconsistency and incompatibility between the vehicle registration management processes and systems between regions, which is a “historical issue.”

However, due to the significant advantages of UHF passive RFID technology in vehicle automatic identification and registration management, relevant experts in the industry believe that vehicle identification and registration systems based on UHF passive RFID technology have the potential to be widely used and will be used More and more countries and regions adopt it.
