Taiwan has spared no effort in the research and development of phalaenopsis breeding and cultivation technology, and has developed greenhouses suitable for Taiwan’s climate, established an annual flowering cultivation system, and developed export markets. In recent years, Taiwan has faced competition from mainland China, Southeast Asian countries and the Netherlands. Stabilizing quality and improving production efficiency has become an important issue for the sustainable development of the Phalaenopsis industry.
Facing the high level of competition and legal norms of global trade liberalization, Taiwan’s agriculture, the efficiency of agricultural production and management has become one of the important issues that is indispensable for developing the international market and improving the competitiveness of the industry. For agriculture, ICT is not only a tool to improve business efficiency, but also a powerful tool to create new business models, the key to the smooth transformation of the industry, and even one of the means to differentiate competitors. Use ICT to improve business efficiency, create new business models, create added value for Taiwan’s agricultural products, and conduct market segmentation to improve the international competitiveness of Taiwan’s agricultural products. RFID technology is an electronic information carrying device. Its data reading and writing functions, high storage capacity and long-distance reading and writing have made this technology attract much attention in the field of automation applications, including Wal-Mart in the United States. Mart department store, German METRO Group, British TESCO, etc. all hope to use this technology to strengthen the automated management process of goods and improve the overall efficiency of supply chain operations.
UHF RFID technology applied to agriculture
The UHF radio frequency identification technology was promoted and applied by Wal-Mart in 2005, and the related logistics application market has risen rapidly. The related technology is suitable for the management of the production process. In recent years, there have been frequent cases of using RFID technology in agricultural products around the world. In order to strengthen the production management efficiency and improve the quality of Taiwan’s agricultural products, the application of RFID has become the direction actively promoted by the Agricultural Committee. With the immediacy and traceability of RFID data reading, the production information is made transparent, the transparency of supply chain information is increased, and the management efficiency of the overall supply chain is improved: record and track product event information in each link of the supply chain, help each The operators in the link master the information as a reference for improving the process operation and ensure the best state of the production process.
The Flower Research Center of the Agricultural Experiment Institute of the Agricultural Committee of the Executive Yuan, with the support of the Information Center of the Agricultural Committee of the Executive Yuan, took the Phalaenopsis as the target of the pilot construction, and carried out the application of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The application scenario planning and proof-of-concept of Phalaenopsis production management, combined with production management through RFID technology, help improve the efficiency of production management, and improve the breeding rate by improving the accuracy of production process control. The verification results found that the introduction of RFID technology into the Phalaenopsis value chain management system can improve the transparency of supply chain information, increase the speed and accuracy of data collection, and use the data collected in real time on site as the basis for immediate improvement of operating procedures and management. Efficiency and added value can effectively improve the international competitiveness of Taiwan Phalaenopsis.
The application of RFID technology in the traceability management of agricultural products is a relatively forward-looking and innovative application both inside and outside the province. In order to ensure the implementation effect of the plan, the plan is divided into “initial research and evaluation stage”, “mid-term establishment stage” and “end-of-term establishment stage”. There are three phases of “promotion and application model stage”, each of which is closely linked. The project was implemented in 1996, and a work promotion team (researchers, consulting companies, and demonstration companies) was formed to build a production-end RFID database and communication platform, operating procedures and production control process inventory, and system software development and control. At the stage of research, application scenario planning, information environment test establishment, and system verification and development of point and control units, some systems are currently running and testing in the pan-bed greenhouse of Yupin Biotechnology Company.
RFID technology combined with automatic turntable system
Phalaenopsis industry is a relay production. The production stage of bottle seedlings lasts for one and a half years, and it takes one year to grow from 1.5-inch seedlings to 3.5-inch large seedlings. These two stages of seedling reproduction, nutrient solution use, and pests and diseases will affect the cultivation. The low breeding rate is the main reason for the high cost of Phalaenopsis operators at present. Generally, Phalaenopsis manufacturers own about 5,000 to 10,000 square meters of greenhouses and cultivate millions of seedlings. Therefore, production process control, quantity and location management, etc., are quite time-consuming and the accuracy is not high. If RFID can be used to quickly read Capable of inventory management, it will be able to improve inventory management efficiency and save labor inventory costs. With the increase in the area of the greenhouse, the traditional manual handling of seeds and seedlings is relatively time-consuming and labor-intensive. In order to increase the efficiency of greenhouse operation and import and export, the industry imitated the Dutch automated greenhouse and invested in the construction of rolling bed equipment. Location management is difficult to achieve through manual records, and the assistance of information systems is urgently needed.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has the benefits of fast reading, intelligent management of goods and objects, lower inventory costs, enhanced safety management and improved logistics efficiency. Reel bed positioning and inventory management will further improve efficiency.

Develop an information system, which can set, inquire, and create data on the turntable, and use the touch screen to perform related inquiries. At present, the plan has cooperated with the breeding company to carry out the system operation in the actual commercial production environment.
RFID Application of Yupin Biotechnology Company
The project started in 1996, and part of the system is currently running and testing in the pan-bed greenhouse of Yupin Biotechnology. Through the cooperation of actual commercial production, problems are found in the process and continuous improvement to increase the stability of the system. It is hoped that the implementation of the plan will not only enhance the international competitiveness of the Phalaenopsis industry, but also hope that in the future, it will lead to the improvement of the overall RFID industry capabilities in the province, including the software development and system integration capabilities of information service providers.
