French heating equipment manufacturer adopts RFID for equipment decontamination

French heating system components manufacturer Temiq has added Near Field Communication (NFC) RFID technology for dredging of heating equipment such as boilers, allowing customers to better track the usage of their heating equipment. In May, the company’s Ninox desludger adopted RFID technology provided by Tagproduct, a French RFID hardware and solutions provider.
Temiq’s Ninox unit removes sludge from circulating water heating systems. The company desludger’s customers are typically service providers specializing in environmental engineering and repairs, as well as heating system maintenance. Ninox is designed to protect and protect pipes, since sludge can corrode heating equipment over time, affecting the performance of the heating system, resulting in a 10 to 15 percent increase in energy consumption, said Muriel Chenebault, Temiq’s marketing director.
Temiq’s Ninox desludger incorporates NFC RFID technology that allows workers to access the device’s operational data using the Tagproduct APP mounted on an NFC smartphone.
In addition, the accumulation of sludge can cause the radiator to make a loud noise and possibly damage the boiler. For this purpose, the desludger is designed to collect and remove sludge particles from heating systems. When a desludger reaches a certain capacity, it removes accumulated sludge and particles and starts collecting again. However, when decontamination occurs must be pre-set by employees, which requires a cable to connect to a software-configured device.
If the user wants to know how much sludge has been collected, they use a control box to connect to the unit and plug a cable between an ethernet port and the control box.
For this reason, Temiq wanted to provide a simple solution that would allow operators, such as employees in charge of heating a heating plant’s boilers, to wirelessly capture data and adjust settings.
About a year ago, Temiq teamed up with Tagproduct to create a solution, a simple, compact system that embeds NFC RFID tag electronic cards into a Ninox desludger connected to a microprocessor.
The system also includes an NFC-based app for an Android phone or tablet, Tagproduct spokesman Stéphane Racamier said, and cloud-based software to manage data collected from the device.
An NFC tag built into the desludger stores data from the sensor measuring the amount of sludge collected. The label can also set how much sludge is collected and when it must be cleaned. To obtain information about the operation of the desludger, workers can utilize the NFC-enabled mobile phone to download the Tagproduct app. The app displays data information on the phone and can send data to cloud-based software so it can store relevant data for managers. Additionally, the app can be used to change settings on the desludger and forward details of those changes to the cloud-based software.
So far, Temiq has started offering customized solutions to customers who have purchased licensed software and applications. For these customers, the company reports that any problems with the descaling process can be detected, ensuring the normal operation of the boiler. It also saves maintenance personnel labor time as they collect device data stored by the microprocessor through NFC/RFID cell phone reads, Chenebault said.
