Fujitsu adds RFID solution to Akisai Agriculture Cloud

Fujitsu’s RFID Agricultural Production Management System

The RFID system is provided by Kobayashi Create Co., which has started producing and selling vegetables grown in plant factories.

Such horticultural plants can provide plants with the necessary conditions for growth, such as LED lighting, ventilation and liquid nutrients, through a human-controlled environment, regardless of the season.

Fujitsu reports that the production management system is designed to manage production workshops and greenhouse gardening, and utilizes RFID tags and handheldReaderCollect historical data about plants from planting to harvest.

The company says the service is suitable for managing plant growth within a plant factory, a greenhouse horticultural site for managing large quantities of cultivated crops, or improving the management of a variety of small-batch crops.

With the launch of the new service, workers use handheld readers to read RFID tags or multiple 2D barcode labels assigned to each, enabling the system to identify each employee and record their work.

Data from the handheld device can be transferred and stored on a work computer, and the information can be analyzed to determine trends, verify work progress and assess plant growth conditions, providing managers with a wealth of useful information.

In addition, Fujitsu reports that the exchange of cultivation results among agricultural producers can also facilitate the exchange of cultivation techniques and improve the quality of work.

In the future, Fujitsu plans to use the information data collected by this service and other Akisai services to create a complete supply chain covering ordering, production, transportation and inventory management.

Fujitsu intends to deploy the service at its own plant in Aizu-Wakamatsu in October 2014 for the cultivation and production of low-potassium lettuce.
