GPI Data Reveals Widespread Adoption of RFID Technology in Casinos Worldwide

Some recent sales figures from GPI, a major global provider of gaming equipment, illustrate the widespread adoption of RFID technology in casinos around the world.
Gaming Partners International Corporation (GPI), a maker of chips and table gaming equipment, announced that 41 percent of global chip sales in the first half of 2008 came from chips embedded with RFID chips. 40% of the RFID chips are sold to North America, and 48% are sold to the casino city of Macau. In 2004, RFID chip sales accounted for only 3.4% of GPI sales, a figure that rose to 26.7% in 2007
GPI RFID chips are an integral part of the RFID system designed by Progressive Gaming International Corporation. In this system, each gaming table RFID chip holder can identify up to 1,000 RFID chips per second, improving real-time visibility of the status and results of each table, preventing counterfeiting and theft of chips.
RFID technology also offers other advantages for casino operators, such as systems that improve gambling monitoring by automatically tracking players, and allowing operators to evaluate players by actual wagers, rather than manually.
