RFID manufacturer Intelleflex Corp and road construction and agricultural information provider Minds Inc. have jointly released an automated tracking solution for crop harvesting.
The solution combines GPS, RFID and wireless communication technologies to provide real-time visibility for time-critical operations in field harvesting.With this solution, farmers and harvesting contractors can track the location, operating hours and productivity of harvesting workers, as well as the arrival, loading and departure times of crop transport vehicles

“During the urgency of the harvest season, people tend to focus only on the task at hand, flawlessly tracking, recording and communicating operational data. No exchange of information can guarantee maximum harvest efficiency,” said Pierre Vidaillac, president of Minds Inc.
Harvester workers can now be equipped with GPS and RFID readers to track their location on the field and when transport vehicles arrive, load and leave. This information is transmitted wirelessly to back-end systems and is available via the web and mobile phones.
Intelleflex has previously worked with Minds Inc on a similar project to track hot asphalt for road construction, see RFID system will monitor the delivery of hot mix asphalt.
