Novetex selected Class 1 Gen 2 tags produced by UPM Rafsec in the first phase of the RFID system configuration, with a usage volume of approximately 200,000. The project started in October 2005 and was completed in March 2006. In Longda Woolen’s warehouse, workers stick RFID tags on the packaged yarn packages. Generally speaking, 9 yarn shafts are assembled into one yarn package. After the label is pasted, the sandbag will pass through the “door card” installed with the RFID card reader through the conveyor belt. During the transmission process, the relevant information is accurately read. The acceptance process is not officially over until the sandbags are placed on the storage rack. The information collected by the RFID system is centrally processed by the Avanti RFID net middleware developed by SCL, and finally stored in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. The database assigns a unique EPC code to the label of each yarn package, and writes the related information of the yarn package and storage location information into the label. The middleware also connects to Novetex’s warehouse management system.

Readers can imagine the actual situation of Longda wool spinning RFID warehouse management: in a warehouse with neat and orderly goods discharge, a warehouse staff is pushing a “mobile cart”, which is a RFID handheld reader. The “integration” of the device and the wireless communication notebook computer, the notebook computer is connected with the company’s application server and warehouse database; when he passes through each yarn package, the information contained in the label on the yarn package will be read by the card reader. The information transmitted mainly includes: the ID number of the label, the location of the yarn package storage and the change and so on. As for consumer privacy issues, there is no need to worry, as the label is removed after the consumer has purchased the yarn-packed product.

Novetex expects real-time and precise warehouse management through the RFID system; SCL believes that this RFID system can reduce the time-consuming, labor and labor resource consumption for Novetex during the warehousing process, and at the same time, accelerate the speed of sales and circulation . In terms of data, without any hindrance to the entire company’s warehousing operation system, the time spent on warehousing has been reduced to two hours all day, that is to say, warehousing can be done in two hours.

Novetex only uses RFID tags in its own operation management process. “The information stored in the tags is only the ordered identification code of the yarn package, which matches the database information of the computer terminal.” Mr. Tyrus Yeung also explained why he chose Gen 2 tags , “First, because Gen 2 tags have better reading performance compared to Gen 1 tags; second, because of cost considerations, Gen 2 tags are 10 cents per tag, which is better than other earlier types of tags. Labels are cheap.”

After completing the first phase of configuration in March 2007, Novetex will further expand the application of the RFID system in warehouse storage. The specific expansion plan is still under discussion and has not yet been determined.
