GS1, the International Article Numbering Association, announced that a new generation of RFID-based “EPC” (Electronic Product Code) identification standards will be implemented in retail group Oxylane. The project was launched in the spring of 2014, whereby the application of RFID tags will cover 85% of Oxylane’s products sold.

The project will involve Oxylane’s three business areas: production, logistics and sales. This will be the first large-scale use by a French retailerRFID. For Patrice Ribout, Project Management Manager at Oxylane, RFID will bring a major improvement to the group’s operations: “Because we can perform real-time inventory counts, product availability is improved. By implementing comprehensive product flow control, Achieving just-in-time replenishment increases the speed, security and reliability of the settlement environment. This will positively impact three important factors in the business model: revenue growth for logistics and sales, and increased profit and operational efficiency .”

Full Phase 1 Deployment Spring 2014

Products in production in summer and spring 2014 will be affixed with RFID tags. “All of our production departments and major suppliers around the world are very concerned about source labels. During the label production process, the GS1Databar label needs to be printed at the same time as the code is written to the RFID label, both of which have the same unique product code.”

By the end of March 2014, all points of sale must be equipped with RFID devices. “This way our administrators canRFID read headsmartphone to check inventory. In addition, we will upgrade the settlement system and mobile anti-theft devices. The anti-theft system will incorporate dual technologies (combining traditional methods and RFID). “

Oxylane proposed to respect consumers’ personal privacy, “It must be frank and honest with people, so that anyone who has doubts about this technology can rest assured, because each label can be set to an invalid state after use.”

Associated with hundreds of products

In the future, Oxylane is preparing to implement a larger-scale IoT plan in 2015. “Consumers will find repair manuals, instructions for use and recall information through the system. Our goal is to ensure the safety and durability of our products, which is also the mission of a socially responsible company.”
