Stoll watch repair company uses RFID technology to improve productivity
[ad_1]
RFID technology has always been seen as a specialized technology for large manufacturers, retailers, transportation companies, etc. Of course, there is some truth to this. Larger companies tend to have more assets to track or products shipped, and they also have more resources to deploy RFID systems and solve problems encountered during deployment. Smaller companies don’t have as many resources, and they feel the risks in RFID system deployment are too great.
Of course, this situation has begun to change. Stoll is a small watch repair company with 62 employees who repair 120,000 watches a year. The company is doing well, but because the company is managed manually, it is difficult for them to provide timely service to customers around the world.
Of course, 120,000 watches isn’t a big number for Walmart or Airbus. But each watch goes through disassembly, cleaning, repair, lubrication, timing, pressure checking and reassembly operations by 15 different employees. It is not uncommon for a watch to be misplaced during repairs. When this happens, employees need to find the watch in need of repair from a large collection of individually packaged watches.
To address these issues, Stoll is not a passive UHF RFID solution provided by CDO Technologies, which tracks watches during receipt and repair. Since then, the company has used RFID technology in shipping and added a batch application in November 2014 to update the status of 50 to 60 watches simultaneously. The RFID project, deployed in three phases, transformed the company’s business processes, increasing efficiency and employee productivity. In addition, the system provides the location of each watch, which also allows customer service representatives to provide customers with more detailed status information.
I believe there will be more and more similar solutions in the future. RFID technology is rapidly maturing, large retailers and manufacturers use millions of tags and readers, and hardware prices will continue to decline. At the same time, software will become more powerful, and system integrators will deploy solutions more efficiently and quickly.
I have always believed that RFID technology will be widely adopted by companies of all different industries, regions and sizes. If you’ve always thought your company is too small to use an RFID system, now maybe you can change your mind.
