Trakya Dküm uses RFID to track mold production in real time

Manufacturers use RFID to streamline internal processes, make operations more efficient, and improve supply chain responsiveness. Even if the manufacturer does not need to communicate and coordinate too much with end users, suppliers, logistics providers, etc., RFID can still achieve a rapid return on investment for suppliers by simplifying internal processes and improving production efficiency. The advantages of RFID are reflected in quickly helping companies track, manage, and record time-consuming and labor-intensive assets, reducing costs for companies.
Another RFID beneficiary we mentioned today is Trakya Dküm, one of the largest foundries in Turkey with 80,000 different product lines. Therefore, the biggest challenge for foundries is how to obtain the real-time and accurate production status of these production lines. This information is closely related to production efficiency, and also greatly affects inventory management and the daily operation process of the company.
Trakya Dküm has used RFID solutions before, but the RFID technology used at that time did not pass rigorous pre-testing, and the tags could not withstand the extreme environment of the casting process, such as high temperature, shock and vibration. EHV IT then successfully helped the foundry solve the problem. Fatih Yücecengiz, IT department manager at Trakya Dküm, is very satisfied with the results of the whole project, saying that the solution has brought “revolutionary changes” in the production management of the foundry.
For this project, the foundry selected the Pico Wedge tag, a tag specifically designed to be embedded inside the asset, which not only provides high-strength performance, meets MIL-STD-810F standards, but also provides a very convenient is embedded in the mold. The solution uses the Zebra MC3190-Z handheld tag reader to initially record the information that the tag has not entered the production line after it is installed in the mold. This information is then stored in the foundry’s SAP MII system. Handheld readers can help workers scan tags for information at any time during the production process.
“RFIDis the only technique we have found effective in the management of the production process. Through automation, the errors of manual entry are eliminated, and workers can also focus more on the production process, and the efficiency and quality have been greatly improved. We can also manage inventory through RFID, the cost is greatly reduced, and the help of RFID on the business growth of enterprises is obvious. ” said Deniz Okuyan, Purchasing Manager at Trakya Dküm.
Through RFID technology, Trakya Dküm achieves:
RFID makes the entire production process and warehousing process of the product clearly visible and obtains information in real time
Better production planning
Better management of inventory and asset maintenance programs
Real-time understanding of precise production conditions
Automatic data acquisition to avoid human error
Significant cost reduction
