Shenzhen Jinhongji Container Yard Co., Ltd. is located in Donghai Road, Yantian, Shenzhen. It is an important logistics and warehousing enterprise under the Hongji Group. Its customers include many internationally renowned shipping companies.

As a yard that stores and manages empty containers for many shipping companies, Jin Hongji handles the in and out of hundreds of containers and trailers every day. The registration of containers and vehicles, as well as the management of the storage location of containers is an important task.Based on the operation process of the Jinhongji storage yard, the Electronic Commerce Technology Institute (ETI) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Shenzhen Research Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Shenzhen Jingu Technology Co., Ltd. developed a container stack based on RFID technology in June 2005. Field management pilot system.

In summary, in this pilot project, when an empty container arrives, we use an RFID tag to associate information such as the holder, type, size, and box number of each box. And through wireless communication, the data communication between the office and the yard operation forklift is carried out. In the subsequent yard operations, we can use RFID tags to verify the stacking and pickup locations of the containers, as well as to automatically record the box number.

Specifically, when an empty container arrives, the trailer driver hands the delivery slip to the office for processing. The office enters the container holder, type, size, container number and other information, and calculates a stacking location for the container based on the current stacking status of the yard and the stacking rules of the container. At the same time, an RFID tag is used to associate the information of the box. After finishing the order, the driver took the label back and pasted it on the container. At the same time, the warehousing information is transmitted to the forklift in the yard through wireless communication. The forklift driver can know in advance what kind of truck will send what kind of cabinet to where. When the trailer reaches the designated position, when the forklift grabs the cabinet, the RFID reading system installed on the forklift will read the tag attached to the cabinet. If the cabinet is the same as the previously notified cabinet, the forklift driver can put the cabinet in the designated location and press the’Finish’ button to confirm to the office that the previously designated cabinet has been placed in the location. If the cabinet read is inconsistent with the cabinet previously notified, an’error’ message will be sent to the office. The office adjusts according to the error situation until the designated cabinet matches the designated location. After completing the storage operation, the tow truck driver can drive the car directly out of the gate.

When the empty trailer arrives at the yard to pick up a container, the trailer driver hands the packing list to the office for processing. The office enters the information on the suitcase list, and calculates the location of a suitcase and the box number of the suitcase according to the holder, type, size, etc. from the system. And tell the driver to drive the trailer to that location. At the same time, through wireless communication, the suitcase information is sent to the forklift. Let the forklift driver know in advance what kind of truck is going to pick up what kind of cabinet. When the trailer reaches the designated position, the forklift driver picks up the cabinet from the designated position. At this time, you can read the RFID attached to the cabinet through the RFID reader on the forklift, and verify whether the cabinet number is consistent. If they are consistent, put them on the trailer; if they are inconsistent, send an “error” message to the office, and let the office modify the corresponding work instructions until the designated cabinet number exactly matches the designated location. After the trailer picks up the cabinet and arrives at the gate, the RFID reading system installed at the gate reads the RFID tag on the cabinet, and the exit system shows that the cabinet should be picked up by the vehicle. If the license plate displayed on the system is consistent with the actual license plate of the vehicle, press the “release” button, and the gate manager will remove the label on the cabinet and let the vehicle go out; otherwise, return to the yard for adjustment until the specified cabinet is consistent with the specified The license plates match exactly. After the lifting operation is completed, the yard management personnel can query the number, location, etc. of the cabinet that was released, as well as the updated yard stacking situation.

In general, the RFID system addresses the access records and location management issues in the yard management, eliminating the inaccuracy and lag caused by multiple manual records and post-recording orders, as well as avoiding regular daily visits. The work of inspecting the storage yard has improved the processing efficiency, processing accuracy, and real-time performance of the storage yard.
