The Danish postal operator uses two-way 2.4 GHz RFID technology to track the sorting process of postal vehicles and letters in order to better optimize driving routes and improve work efficiency. The system is provided by Commotive, which can improve the accuracy of letter sorting and optimize vehicle driving routes.

In the past 7 years, PostNord (a postal service provider) has used active RFID tags to track postal vehicles throughout Denmark. About two years ago, Commotive began to develop a smart solution for Danish Post that was different from ordinary active RFID to reduce the cost of tags and readers. Commotive tags not only store unique ID numbers and other related information, they can also be used as readers to forward data transmitted by other tags.

The Danish Post Company tried to apply this technology to the tracking of postal vehicles. As early as 2011, I have tried to paste Commotive’s Z1 active 2.4 GHz label on the locks of 7,700 public mailboxes. The size of the label is 95 mm * 80 mm * 25 mm (3.1 inches * 3.7 inches * 1 Inches); Commotive Z3 tags with built-in GPS units are also pasted on the covers of 3,800 postal vehicles. These tags rely on the vehicle’s power supply to provide energy. In addition, Commotive Z4 readers were installed at the entrances of 400 post offices. All Commotive tags and readers work in the 2.4 GHz frequency band and comply with the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

The Z1 tag of each mailbox uses a sensor to detect whether the mail has been taken away, and it is stored in its 250-kilobyte memory. It also stores the ID number and the GPS coordinates of the vehicle with the Z3 tag. Regardless of whether the door of the mailbox is open or not, the Z1 transponder is always transmitting data regardless of whether the postal car passes through the mailbox. The reading range of the Commotive system is 100 meters to 200 meters.

When the postal vehicle returns to the post office, it downloads the relevant information of the Z3 tag from the Z4 reader installed on the back of the compartment, and forwards the data to the background server through a wired connection, so that the time of the vehicle passing the mailbox, the number of letters received, the postman, etc. in the database The information is updated.
