Siemens helps KBA use RFID tags to optimize paper logistics

For large printing companies, the paper logistics within the company is an important part that affects the competitiveness of the company. Those in the industry know that for sheet-fed printing, controlling the exact position of the paper storage tray in an enterprise is a very difficult problem, and it is also a very costly problem, and this cost is often ignored by people. Now, KBA has launched a perfect solution: using a wireless identification system to automatically provide accurate and real-time information about the company’s internal paper storage.
At the just-concluded Drupa 2008 exhibition, KBA of Germany (KBA) launched the industry’s unique PileTronic system, which can 100% automatically manage the paper logistics within the enterprise and provide comprehensive electronic tracking documents. The core of this technology is Siemens’ Simatic RF600 RFID sensing system.
The primary task of the RFID system is to automatically record goods and items. Cooperating with the MIS system, all relevant processing data can be recorded. At the same time, this processing is intelligent, which makes this technology must be fully effective and will bring huge economic benefits. In this system, Simatic RF-Manager acts as an intermediary, it acts as a transition between the read/write device and the IT host.
For many printing companies, grasping the reliable and real-time status of their internal logistics and inventory is a very important and expensive task. Due to the different production speeds of the printing presses, and also due to the conversion of jobs, when the production is completed, there will often be some paper left. These papers need to be re-stocked, which is the process, which greatly increases the probability of error. The resulting problem is: You may waste a long time looking for paper that is not there at all. The printing press is shut down because there is no paper for printing, and you have to make urgent purchases in an emergency. All of these will seriously affect your delivery time. However, the cost savings brought by optimizing warehousing and internal logistics are often overlooked.
KBA’s PileTronic system is an innovative technology that can coordinate paper logistics in large printing plants and record the accurate figures of paper consumed and retained.
This system works from the moment the paper reaches the printing plant. Each piece of paper will be affixed with two Simatic RF630L smart tags. Using radio frequency, the RF660R reading/writing device in the system will record the accurate identification information of the paper stack. The paper in the warehouse will also record the quantity, contract number, specification and grammage and other detailed data under this information. After the paper is used, the relevant data will be rewritten, and all these data will constitute a complete tracking of the paper.
