The Finnish city of Oulu and ToP Tunniste, an RFID system integrator, have collaborated to test a parking system in the streets and garages of Oulu city center-paying for parking through NFC mobile phones. ToP Tunniste provides a SmartParking solution, which is part of the ToP Tunniste SmartTouch series, said Pauli Tossavainen, the company’s management director. <\/p>\n
The pilot project was launched on September 3 in downtown Oulu. A total of 50 car owners participated. Each participant was equipped with a SmartParking mobile phone and a SmartTouch parking tag with NXP\u2019s Mifare Ultralite 13.56 MHz chip. The tags comply with ISO 14443-A standards. . The NFC module in the mobile phone receives the unique ID number of the tag, and sends the vehicle and location number to the GPRS connection provided by TeliaSonera. On the SmartTouch server hosted by ToP Tunniste, Tossavainen said. <\/p>\n When the vehicle is parked in the garage, the driver touches the garage door with the mobile phone. The reader reads the ID number of the mobile phone, opens the garage door and starts recording the parking time. Every hour, the mobile phone sends a reminder message to the user, so as to ensure that the vehicle will not forget to register and exit when the vehicle leaves.
