Air France uses NFC to help passengers board

Air France, French telecommunications operator Orange, SITA, Toulouse-Blagnac Airport and RESA collaborate to launchNFCThe boarding experience, from entering the building to boarding the plane, allows selected passengers to touch the dedicated terminal with an Orange NFC smartphone to pass through the airport.

In the next 6 months, when passengers take the Air France flight from Toulouse-Blagnac to Paris-Orly, the Touch&Pass app will allow passengers’ smartphones to be automatically checked in the same way they always check in. Receive NFC boarding pass. Then, they can use the NFC mobile phone to complete the boarding process, including security checks, lounges, and boarding.

“This new solution relies on two industry standards: one is the IATA (International Air Transport Association) standard for the air transport industry, and the other is the NFC standard for the mobile communications industry GSMA.” Orange mobile payment and contactless Said Thierry Millet, vice president of the division. “This opens the door to large-scale industrial applications.”

“NFC brings a high-speed, relaxed and paperless experience to the airport environment,” added Renaud Willard, marketing manager at RESA. “Passengers don’t need to think about boarding passes, smartphone battery life or mobile phone screen rotation issues. They just walk through the airport and simply touch RESA with their mobile phones.ReaderThat’s it. “

Air France and Orange will invite hundreds of Air France Gold and Platinum Flying Blue members to participate in this test. Orange will provide the NFC infrastructure and SIM card for this test. SITA has developed a set of NFC specifications to adapt this technology to the airport environment, a toolkit for mobile integration and boarding pass delivery infrastructure.

Air France will provide the Touch&Pass NFC app for smartphones, and RESA will provide Toulouse-Blagnac Airport with check-in, boarding and fast-track processing systems, including electronic gates for security checks and self-boarding. The RESA reader/writer uses the technical specifications developed by SITA to obtain the correct boarding pass, even if there are multiple boarding passes stored in the passenger’s mobile phone.
