AB Foods uses RFID technology to identify and track assets in the manufacturing process to reduce costs

AB Foods is a subsidiary of AB Group, a Turkish chemical product and food manufacturer. The demand of this project is to find a practical solution to identify and track the metal troughs turnover in the factory to increase the visibility of their turnover. In addition to being used in the internal production process of AB Foods, these metal tanks are also used to hold and transport customers’ liquid egg products. The most challenging aspect of the entire RFID system is to find a label that can withstand the cleaning process of the metal tank. The metal tank must be cleaned every time it is returned to AB Foods.

The challenge

Lack of accurate location information of the metal trough in the factory

The previously used barcode system cannot work effectively and reliably

The high-impact cleaning process puts high tolerance requirements on the labels used

After a large number of field tests and trials, AB Foods finally chose Confidex Ironside® hard labels to be installed on each metal tank. Passive UHF RFID antennas are installed on the top of the bracket at each visible point. The data information read from the reader is processed by the software designed by Teknopalas, and the product location and turnover path data are generated and provided to the production manager. In addition, a reader is installed at the shipping door to read the tags again to avoid shipping errors.

AB Foods, which has applied the RFID system, can effectively know which metal troughs have been received by customers and which have not been received through tracking tags, thereby reducing the loss of metal troughs and effectively saving costs.

What items do we mark?

Confidex Ironside® hard tags are installed on the shoulder of each metal slot. The reason for choosing this installation location is to provide a good read and write distance between the reader and the reader without affecting the truck, for example. Stacking of metal troughs during transportation. Each metal tank must be cleaned with an acid solvent every time it is returned to AB Foods. Confidex Ironside® hard labels are the only labels that can still provide satisfactory reading results after repeated cleanings.
