City Pizza introduces RFID system to facilitate customers to check out quickly

The RFID system developed by SoftTouch was installed a month ago and has already brought significant benefits to City Pizza, said City Pizza store owner Larry Jacobi. Not only the theft in the store is greatly reduced, customers who come to spend can also check out at any time. The staff in the store must use RFID wristbands to log in to the POS system and place orders; each wristband is programmed with a unique ID number, which represents the name of the wearer. After adopting this system, staff cannot distribute food for free, and customers do not need to call a waiter to check out, which greatly facilitates customers.

SoftTouch chairman Mike Paycher said that the company uses RFID modules to integrate RFID functions into SoftTouch’s POS system. The new system is already in use at City Pizza and elsewhere. The system includes a self-service kiosk and an RFID reader that can be connected to the existing SoftTouch POS. The RFID module also includes RFID cards, RFID buckles and wristbands containing passive 125 kHz tags that comply with the ISO 11784 standard. RFID ring buckle is used to improve customer loyalty, it can record the number of orders and order content of customers, and convert them into points. When the points accumulate to a certain number, customers can give away some free products.

Before the introduction of the RFID system, the waiter had to enter the work number into the POS machine every time an order was entered or upgraded; now they only need to select a wristband before work, and the reader of the POS system scans the wristband. The waiters then put their fingers on the biometric scanner, the system searches for the employee’s name corresponding to the fingerprint, and then associates the name with the ID number of the wristband.

After the introduction of the system, the waiters must use the wristband every time they place an order, so that they cannot obtain food as someone else, thereby greatly reducing theft in the store.

Although it has only been installed for a month, the system has proven its worth, Larry Jacobi said.

When the waiter comes to the POS system to place an order, the POS system obtains the ID number of the wristband, and immediately opens the access authority for the waiter to place the order. After placing the order, the waiter puts an RFID card in front of the reader, the reader reads the ID number of the RFID card, and matches the ID number with the newly entered order. After the completion, the waiter then handed the RFID card to the customer.
