Teridian shortened development time with 73S1210F smart card reader IC for prepaid gas meter module.
Irvine, California, June 24, 2008-Teridian Semiconductor today announced that Manas Metering Systems, a leading supplier of electricity meters and smart card-based payment and prepayment systems, has selected the Teridian 73S1210F smart card reader integrated circuit for In its new payment expansion module “G4” component, it can be used with various electricity meters. The Manas G4 prepaid module can be used with EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa) international payment smart cards, and is also compatible with Manas’ “Payflex Smart-Card Token” prepaid solution. Manas has completed the first phase of prepaid meter deployment for Istanbul gas transmission and distribution company IGDAS. IGDAS is one of the largest gas transmission and distribution companies in Europe with 3.5 million customers.
The Teridian 73S1210F smart IC card reader is provided with the “Pseudo-CCID” software that complies with EMV 4.1 level 1 and ISO7816 standards. It brings a turnkey smart card reader solution to system developers. Advanced features such as accelerated system-level EMV certification, lockable on-chip flash memory, and “on-site” firmware upgrades monitored by the host processor.

Pricing and launch time
The Teridian 73S12XX smart IC card reader series products including 73S1210F are currently in production, and a quotation is available upon request. The 73S1210F development board has also been launched, pre-installed with the Teridian “Pseudo-CCID” software stack. The development board can be used as a self-contained smart card reader immediately, and can be controlled using a universal asynchronous serial interface. The development board is delivered as a user-friendly Windows XP application that supports smart card control (activation, deactivation and APDU exchange) in ISO7816 and EMV modes.
