Silverjet, a British full-business luxury airline, uses RFID technology to provide customers with more considerate services and hopes to attract high-end customers from competitors.
At present, the main application of RFID in the aviation industry is to identify and track aviation baggage and aircraft parts. Silverjet plans to send a reusable RFID tag to each of their regular customers.
Tags can store passenger information, allowing staff to provide more personalized services, said George Henderson, IT director of Silverjet.
“A small label can humanize the service and make customers become our repeat customers.” He said.
Tags can also store customers’ personal preferences, such as their favorite beverages. When customers board the plane, they can enjoy their favorite drinks.
Electronic labeling technology has unlimited potential for service applications, said Harrop, an analyst at ID TechEx.
“Through RFID technology, the staff can quickly identify the identity of the passenger and provide the most appropriate service,” he said. “This does not require a large-scale pilot test, and the cost has little effect.”
