Gas service provider Love’s is working on the installation of an RFID payment system. The company claims to be the first gas station to allow customers to pay with RFID.
The radio frequency system uses safe, low-cost RFID tags that can be affixed to the windshield of the vehicle. When the vehicle enters the Love’s gas station, the antenna installed next to the lane will detect the tag, and the received signal will automatically turn on and off the gas pump. The driver only needs to follow simple steps to complete the payment.
Love’s said that RFID technology is easy to use, can prevent fuel theft and provide more accurate payment tracking information.
Jon Archard, Head of Fuel Sales at Love’s, explained: “A gallon of fuel costs about $4. As long as RFID technology can reduce fuel theft or other improper purchases of fuel by 1%, trucking companies can save 4 per gallon of fuel. Minute.”
Stagecoach Cartage & Distribution in El Paso, Texas, has more than 100 trucks using Love’s RFID payment system.
