Leshan City, Sichuan will implement electronic label dynamic supervision on CNG cylinders

Compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders are called “mobile untimely bombs” because they have many links and are prone to accidents during use. Yesterday (15), the reporter learned from the Leshan City CNG Gas Cylinder Dynamic Supervision Work Conference that before the end of this year, our city will fully implement the dynamic safety supervision of CNG gas cylinders for vehicles, using the world’s most advanced radio frequency identification technology ( (RFID) to identify CNG cylinders for identity and safety technology status, implement a one-bottle-one-electronic-tag, and network-link video dynamic supervision system.
CNG cylinders for vehicles
It is understood that with the increasing shortage of energy and rising gasoline prices, more and more cars use CNG cylinders. At present, there are 10 CNG filling stations in the city, and one filling station is under construction. According to incomplete statistics, there are nearly 5,000 vehicles and nearly 10,000 CNG cylinders in our city that use CNG cylinders. These vehicles with gas cylinders include taxis, buses, private cars, coaches, etc. Among them, in Shizhong District and Emeishan City, the number of vehicles using CNG reached 207 and 1,362 respectively. As a high-risk product, CNG cylinders are in production, especially in the process of use. Due to the increasing number of links, high liquidity, evasion of registration and inspection, and private restructuring of CNG vehicles, there are more and more violations. Traditional supervision methods can no longer adapt to the current situation. The needs of the security situation.
During the interview, the reporter learned that a set of technologies developed by the new technology RFID to ensure the safe use of CNG cylinders, namely the “CNG Cylinder Electronic Label Dynamic Supervision Integrated System”, will be installed on each CNG cylinder. It is a globally unique electronic label that contains relevant information such as the manufacturer, date of manufacture, prescribed service life, allowable filling times, name of the unit of use, license plate number, and vehicle type of the gas cylinder. When the gas cylinder is filled with CNG, the filling station operator scans the electronic tag through the identification device, reads the gas cylinder information in the tag and transmits it to the intelligent controller in the gas dispenser, and the intelligent controller determines whether the gas cylinder is Qualified, so as to determine whether to open the solenoid valve to refill the gas cylinder. This system can automatically identify privately modified vehicles and expired bottles, avoiding the interference of many human factors, ensuring that unqualified cylinders are eliminated because they cannot be refilled, thereby effectively controlling the circulation of unqualified cylinders.
The relevant person in charge of Leshan Quality Supervision Bureau said that the implementation of dynamic supervision of gas cylinder electronic tags can also timely transmit the filling records of CNG charging stations to the data center of the quality supervision department through the communication network. The quality supervision personnel can achieve this without leaving their homes. Effectively supervise inflatable stations, personnel, and vehicles. At present, the preparations for the dynamic supervision of the electronic label of CNG gas cylinders in our city have been completed and will be officially implemented from August 20th.

In order to ensure the driving safety of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, Chongqing Municipality will force a recall of oil-to-gas taxis with immediate effect and conduct free inspections on plastic-lined composite gas cylinders.
In the past two years, Chongqing has switched from fuel to natural gas for taxi fuel. Thousands of taxis in the city ran all over the street with gas tanks on their backs. Among them, the taxis modified by the CNG car refitting plant approved by the Municipal Transportation Commission use plastic inner tanks. There are more than 640 composite CNG cylinders. Recently, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Transportation, Science and Technology Commission, Quality Supervision and other departments jointly issued a notice requesting free compulsory inspection of CNG vehicle plastic liner composite gas cylinders to prevent accidents.
According to reports, the CNG Cylinder Station of the Chongqing Special Inspection Center has been prepared to add facilities, train personnel, formulate plans, and enhance capabilities to accept the gas cylinders recalled by CNG car modification plants at any time. It is planned to inspect 20 gas cylinders every day on average. At the end of April, the “physical examination” of gas cylinders was completed.
