Recently, the Information Management Department of Wuhan Tianhe Airport, China Southern Airlines and the Airport Passenger and Ground Service Company jointly conducted a preliminary test of “RFID” put into use. The test lasted for two days. Test the success rate of “RFID” luggage tag technology in Wuhan Tianhe Airport, and the test results show that, “RFID“There are no technical barriers to the application of luggage tags. The technology will be settled at Tianhe Airport just around the corner.
At 09:00 on May 8, 2014, the “RFID” luggage tag test officially started, and the “RFID” luggage tag recognition success rate was tested at counter A26 in Area A and Counter B02 in Area B. The first baggage with an “RFID” chip baggage tag on flight 8L9958 was dropped. The baggage was successfully distributed to the corresponding baggage chute after being successfully read and identified by the baggage system. The check-in labor time was shortened by an average of 50 seconds compared with the previous one. (The average manual check-in time is 1.32 minutes/person), and the entire process takes 56 seconds shorter than before. A total of 971 luggage tags with “RFID” chips were used in this test, and the reading success rate reached 100%. This test allowed check-in staff to experience the new technology firsthand. After the experience, the staff said with emotion, “It’s really convenient, much faster than before, saving time and manpower.” Both require the use of “RFID” luggage tags as soon as possible to replace the current luggage chips.
New technologies are changing with each passing day, and the application of various new technologies in the domestic airport field has developed rapidly, but the application of “RFID” luggage tags has not yet been realized in China. Countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore have successively used RFID technology to solve the problems of low baggage handling efficiency and high baggage error rate. After the Hong Kong International Airport uses RFID tags, the recognition rate has risen to 97%. Compared with previous barcodes, the recognition failure rate has dropped from 20% to 3%.
According to the analysis of the test data of two days, the application and development of “RFID” in Wuhan Tianhe Airport is necessary. It is characterized by fast and convenient operation, accurate data reading, reducing check-in links and shortening the check-in time. It can allow the check-in staff to greatly reduce the pressure during the peak period of passengers, shorten the check-in time of each passenger, thereby shortening the waiting time of passengers in line. It also greatly reduces the baggage error rate. Therefore, “RFID” luggage tags are very effective when they are applied to the luggage sorting system with these advantages. The two-day test was successfully completed, marking that the “RFID” luggage tag application will be settled at Wuhan Tianhe Airport just around the corner.
