Japan uses RFID to prevent and control wild animal pests

NTT West Japan began to provide the “Bird and Beast Damage (Ape Damage) Countermeasure Support System” in June this year. This is a system used to assist farmers in driving away wild animals. The purpose is to further prevent crops from being destroyed or eaten by wild animals.
The current methods of preventing wild animal infestation in various farmlands in Japan include setting up electric fences and fences around the fields, or using appliances and air guns that can make loud noises to achieve the purpose of intimidation. These actions have a certain effect on wild boars and other creatures with fixed ecological work and rest, but for wild apes, it is difficult for humans to guess when they will break into the farmland, and they will jump over the fence to invade, so similar victimization situations There is an endless stream, and the farmers are also troubled by their brains.
Under such circumstances, NTT West Japan has discussed with the local government about corresponding methods and provided farmers with a new system to assist in repelling wild animals. Since ape-like wild animals will gradually learn that a certain area is the living area of humans as they are driven away, and then stop invading, the method of this system is to first select a group of 20 to 30 wild animals. Put an RFID wireless IC tag on its body, and then as long as the animal breaks into the alert range set by the server, the monitor will immediately transmit the signal back and immediately send an email to notify the farmer. The farmer can rush immediately after receiving the email. Going to the farm to drive away, without worrying about sleeping near the farmland, can relieve the tense spirit and fully rest at home.
The company said that the proposed system can also be used in animal ecology research to conduct action patterns and data analysis for certain specific groups. With the multi-hop function of RFID, it is difficult to set up communication equipment. This system can also be constructed in any place. In addition, because only the 429MHz radio frequency is used, there is no need to apply for additional use rights or qualifications during installation.
The entire system includes monitoring devices, RFID tags, servers (one set of above) and application software. The price is 2.1 million yen including tax. The installation does not include the capture of wild animals for customers.
