The European Union will build an “electronic ID card” for equine animals

The European Commission passed regulations on the establishment of “electronic ID cards” for horses, donkeys and other equine animals on the 9th, aimed at improving the ability to track these animals, master their health, and prevent and control animal diseases.
The new regulations, which will take effect in July next year, require that all equine animals are born or imported, and must immediately apply for an animal “electronic identity card”, that is, an electronic tag that matches the animal’s identity is installed on the neck, regardless of the animal’s movement. Wherever you go, this label will always accompany it.
The EU’s traditional approach is to use tags, tattoos, and imprints on animal ears to identify livestock. This approach has drawbacks such as easy loss or damage of tags and slow data entry. The European Commission believes that the new equine “electronic identity card” can avoid the above-mentioned defects and make the identification of livestock more accurate and convenient.
