Fluensee, a provider of RFID asset tracking and supply chain management solutions, has been selected by the Colorado-based New Belgian Brewing Company to provide an RFID system to track, manage and improve the utilization of beer barrels. The most famous flagship product of this beer company is Fat Tire beer, which will deploy Fluensee’s asset tracking system and corresponding passive RFID technology to achieve visibility of the entire supply chain.
Passive RFID readers have been installed along the New Belgium brewery. When the labelled beer barrels are transmitted along the line, the reader collects data from the asset tracking system to record which barrels are most commonly used and what beer is loaded. This information will help brewers to increase the utilization rate of beer barrels.
Brendan Beers, Head of Keg Packaging Material Purchasing at New Belgium Brewing, said, “Using Fluensee’s asset tracking solution and RFID technology can automatically manage the beer keg process, locate the location of the beer kegs, which beer kegs are most frequently used, and send them back to the beer kegs. You can know how long it takes. I hope RFID can simplify the management of beer kegs at the customer point or the entire supply chain.”
When the RFID system is fully deployed, New Belgium plans to collect more extensive supply chain information, including recent barrel positioning, barrel usage, beer filling time, time spent at the sending point of the barrel, and return by each distributor The time of the wine barrel, etc., to achieve complete visibility of this information.
