New Belgium Brewing uses Fluensee’s RFID system to track and manage beer barrels

New Belgium Brewing recently adopted Fluensee’s asset tracking software and passive RFID technology based on web search technology to better visualize the company’s large number of beer barrels. A passive RFID reader is installed in the beer filling line New Belgium. The reader reads the RFID tag information of each beer barrel and sends it to the Fluensee AssetTrack asset tracking system.
Fluensee’s AssetTrack asset tracking system and RFID technology provide brewing companies with the latest data on the most frequently used beer kegs and beer brands. This information can help New Belgium improve the utilization of existing beer kegs due to the improved visibility of beer kegs in the middle of the beer filling process.
New Belgium predicts that if the new system is fully operational, the RFID beer barrel management system can provide the company with the following information:
The current location and status of each beer barrel
The time interval for refilling each beer keg
How long the beer barrels stay at the dealership
The speed and proportion of beer kegs returned by dealers
Brendan Beers, beer barrel buyer at New Belgium Brewing, said: “New Belgium is proud to provide world-class beer. After adopting new technologies, we can reduce costs, increase labor productivity, and become more environmentally friendly. Through Fluensee’s AssetTrack asset tracking system and With RFID technology, our beer keg management can be more automated. We can know where each beer keg is, how often it is used, and how quickly it returns. Our view is that RFID can definitely smooth the process of beer kegs flowing to customers and smooth us out Supply chain.”
At present, most brewing companies are still using manual systems or barcode systems to track their beer kegs. In both methods, it is difficult to determine which customer occupies which beer keg and who is responsible for the damaged beer keg returned. After adopting the new correct business process, RFID will clearly tell the brewery when and where their beer kegs will be delivered, and who can send their beer kegs back to refill if they are now available.
Through detailed beer barrel asset status and movement information records, Fluensee’s RFID AssetTrack asset tracking system can provide New Belgium with accurate beer barrel return and loss data, allowing them to more clearly understand the actual situation of the beer barrel group. Through quality management tools such as six sigma statistical methods, the data returned by the asset tracking system can help brewing companies to optimize beer barrel management.
Tim Harvie, President and CEO of Fluensee, said: “As a leader in the brewing industry, New Belgium recognizes that RFID can provide them with more information about beer barrels and fillings, so that they can better manage the beer barrel community. And the entire supply chain to reduce expenses. We will continue to help New Belgium find more sales network RFID applications, which will significantly reduce time, labor, and expenses.”
New Belgium Brewing company profile
The history of New Belgium Brewing’s beer brewing needs to be traced back to the company’s founder Jeff Lebesch’s bicycle tour to Europe. This tour allowed the company’s founder to launch the commemorative beer brand Fat Tire. Other brands of beer produced by this regional brewery include Sunshine Wheat, Trippel and Blue Paddle. The beer produced by New Belgium is sold to 21 states in the United States, with an annual beer output of approximately 500,000 barrels, making it the third largest beer brewery in the United States.
