Sirit’s IN510 reader and RFID tag solution, installed by the Cal Poly Global Automatic Identification Technology Center (PolyGAIT), has been deployed to identify and locate large-scale and important equipment at the Dai Ablow Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in the United States. Deablo Canyon’s inventory is worth up to 65 million U.S. dollars, which is an essential asset backing for the effective operation and maintenance of nuclear power. In addition, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires a complete physical inventory of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant every two years.

After the RFID system was deployed, when the device was received, the device attached a Sirit Corkscrew RFID tag. The tag is then read by the Sirit IN510 reader. The reader is installed in a designated location, and the location of consumables or commodities in the precise location can be seen. When employees perform daily operations, the RFID system transmits the equipment information and location range to the SAP computer system in Diablo Canyon. The transmitted data is reviewed again to ensure accuracy and may require additional verification and modification. In addition to improving the process, the RFID system has also been deployed to save PG&E’s full-time employees’ expenses, while reducing the burden of challenging physical inventory.

Del Ritchie, the supply chain manager of the U.S. Ablo Gorge Nuclear Power Plant, said, “Sirit’s RFID tags and readers far exceed our expectations. The RFID system can obtain the required data to ensure accurate inventory and achieve inventory processing. Costs have been reduced by 60%.”

Before deploying the RFID system, the PolyGAIT team conducted an extensive comparative evaluation of 20 different RFID tags and 5 RFID readers. After the evaluation, the PolyGAIT evaluation team chose Sirit’s IN510 reader and Corkscrew tag. Because of its excellent performance, it was able to be deployed at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant to manage inventory.

Norbert Dawalibi, President and CEO of Sirit Inc. said, “The results of the PolyGAIT test verify the superior performance and functionality of the Sirit solution. Sirit looks forward to more cooperation with the Cal Poly Group in the future.”

Tali Freed, Ph.D. in Industrial Manufacturing Engineering and PolyGAIT executive, said, “So far, the RFID project of the Deablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant is the largest RFID deployment project. The project has been transformed from academic simulation to integrating design, experimentation, development, implementation, testing and On-the-job training is a comprehensive project.” Freed contact and PolyGAIT temporary director Lawrence Rinzel added, “Sirit’s strong support, coupled with the high performance of the IN510 reader, has enabled the successful deployment of RFID readers and tags. ”

About PolyGAIT
Tali Freed established the Cal Poly Global Automatic Identification Technology Laboratory (PolyGAIT) to educate and train students and industrial partners, and promote cooperation in RFID technology. In addition to providing operational training to academic research and industrial groups and individuals, the center’s current research and development is extremely diverse, including radio frequency testing, antenna development, electronic product manufacturing, packaging and logistics, postal industry, and geographic information systems. The center has been committed to carrying out innovative R&D projects and industrial deployment projects, and is well-known for its multi-disciplinary and challenging RFID solutions.
