Vital Entertainment adopts UHF RFID asset tracking solution to improve asset management efficiency

Most of Vital Entertainment’s assets are expensive equipment such as lenses and cameras. These devices often need to be taken out, and the safe custody of the devices is particularly important. In order to ensure the safe management of equipment, Vital Entertainment managers usually check the number of equipment before leaving the work site and record the product description and serial number. This task is tedious and time-consuming.

Vital Entertainment spent 6 months looking for a set based onRFIDTechnical solutions, and found that in order to better manage access to data, the company needs to spend a lot of money on its IT infrastructure construction. In the end, Dominant RFID company provides a set of high-quality and low-cost asset management solutions.

The program will be smallReaderAttach to a smart phone or tablet to read tag data, and combine with smart phone applications to manage the read tag data; the tag type is passive EPC Gen 2 UHF RFID. The price of the complete solution is less than US$1,000.

The tags used in the scheme come from Xerafy and Alien, among which Xerafy provides anti-metal tags; the reader that can be attached to smart phones is developed and designed by Dominate RFID.

When the equipment is moved to the work site, first use a mobile phone or tablet with a reader to read the tag data. The unique ID code of the tag is stored in the mobile app along with the device’s serial number, description, picture and other information.

After the work is completed, the workers take back all the equipment and use RFID readers to read all the tags. After reading, the mobile app will display a list of devices that have not read tags. Click on the device, the picture, description and other information of the device will be displayed to help the staff find the device whose label has not been read. The reader can be set to Geiger mode to locate a specific device.

Vital Entertainment claims to have ordered 8 modular readers and approximately 300 RFID tags. The program is easy to operate, and employee training only takes 30 minutes. All data can be uploaded to Microsoft Excel.

In order to better manage assets, the company plans to purchase a fixed RFID reader (using Impinj antenna) installed at the exit of the work site.

The system has been online for less than a year, and the loss rate of equipment has dropped. More importantly, the efficiency of asset management has been improved, which greatly saves labor time.
