“Harmony” series freight electric locomotives are all high-power AC drive locomotives, powered by inverters. The locomotives and EMUs use AC asynchronous motors as traction power. Taking the “Harmony D2” electric locomotive as an example, basically every type of “Harmony” series freight electric locomotive will be equipped with a traction converter cabinet (main converter cabinet) and two independent auxiliary converter cabinets.

Among them, the traction drive system of the entire locomotive is installed in the traction converter cabinet, and each motor converter individually supplies power to each traction motor. Therefore, the power part of the entire locomotive and the traction converter cabinet are inseparable, which is inseparable for the normal operation of the locomotive. Operation plays a vital role.

The two auxiliary converter cabinets mainly supply power to auxiliary equipment such as cooling tower fans, traction fans, water pumps, oil pumps, air conditioners and main compressors, battery chargers, heaters, etc., using a redundant working method of one use and one backup; and Compared with the traction converter cabinet, although the auxiliary converter cabinet supplies power to auxiliary equipment, its importance cannot be ignored.
