Near the end of the year, many people want to pick up a few Quanjude roast ducks with the most Beijing characteristics when they return home, but they are worried about buying fakes. For this reason, on December 21st, the time-honored Quanjude announced that it would once again upgrade the Quanjude vacuum packaging anti-counterfeiting technology for seven varieties of roast duck series. Consumers only need to scan the QR code on the packaging bag with their mobile phones to verify the authenticity.

As the most popular “Beijing gift”, Quanjude Vacuum Roast Duck has been suffering from rampant fakes since its listing. This is also an important reason why Quanjude has invested heavily in upgrading anti-counterfeiting packaging.

According to Wang Angang, general manager of Quanjude Imitation Food Company, tourist attractions and various small stores are the hardest hit areas for counterfeit Quanjude vacuum roast ducks. “Some one-day tour buses sell the so-called’Quanjude Vacuum Roast Duck’, which is still hot in the hand. This is undoubtedly counterfeit. In the tourism system, Quanjude currently only authorizes one business outlet in the Ming Tombs Scenic Area. In addition, some small door faces sell it. The Quanjude roast duck is 38 yuan and 58 yuan each, and dealers can’t get it at this price. It’s safe to say that Quanjude vacuum roast ducks under 80 yuan are all fakes.”

In order to combat counterfeiting, at the beginning of last year, Quanjude carried out a refurbishment and anti-counterfeiting upgrade for the vacuum-packed roast duck, and for the first time learned from the anti-counterfeiting technology used in the RMB, adding a number of anti-counterfeiting methods such as three-dimensional anti-counterfeiting. This year, in order to further purify the market, Quanjude cooperated with two high-tech industry companies to upgrade the anti-counterfeiting technology of vacuum roast duck packaging. The upgraded version of the packaging anti-counterfeiting uses two high-tech technologies. The outer packaging bag of each roast duck is printed with “unique and variable two-dimensional code” and “third-generation passive silicon-based chip RFID electronic tags”.

Wang Angang told a reporter from Beijing Business Daily that in simple terms, the pass code was used on the outer packaging of roast ducks. After the upgrade, it was changed to one code per bag. Consumers can identify the authenticity by scanning the code with their mobile phone. If a bag of roast duck is scanned multiple times for verification, it is likely to have been counterfeited. The background will automatically call the police and lock the counterfeit sales location. Front-line counterfeiters can directly investigate. In addition to scanning the QR code for inquiries, consumers can also check the authenticity of the electronic label on the outer packaging through the terminal dedicated device. At present, the first batch of proprietary identification terminal equipment has been put into use in all directly-operated stores in Quanjude, all food specialty stores in Quanjude Jingdian and some counters.
