3M’s Tracking Solutions Division announced the deployment of 3M’s RFID tracking system at the US Marine Corps (USMC) base. USMC Hawaii base deployed an RFID system in the Personnel Management Center (IPAC) to manage the records of the base’s more than 8,000 staff to improve the efficiency of record inventory and unit deployment.

The IPAC system attaches RFID tags to two specific record books, the Marine Corps service record and the officer qualification record. These files move frequently within the base and when the Marines deploy units. A 3M RFID tracking pad is placed on each level of IPAC equipment to monitor the recorded location. The clerks can also use the 3M RFID handheld tracker to find items and confirm the serial number of the shelf to improve the efficiency of internal tasks.

The base staff said that in the inventory process, the 3M RFID system greatly shortened the time to complete the most time-consuming tasks. In the past, it took one week for monthly inventory, and often required work on weekends. After deploying 3M’s RFID system, it now only takes two to three hours to complete monthly inventory.

The staff of the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii also hope that the successful deployment of the RFID system by the IPAC will prompt the entire Marine Corps to deploy the RFID system and realize the easy transmission and tracking of personnel files between the bases.
