The northwestern Shaanxi-Gansu border zone is rich in coal resources. The Hujiahe Coal Mine in Changwu County, Shaanxi Province, is a large-scale mine that was put into operation last year by Binchang Company of Shaanxi Coal Industry Group. The total planned investment is as high as 2.6 billion yuan. In the early morning of August 27, 2010, the coal mine technicians in charge of informatization drove to the provincial city of Xi’an.

Xi’an Datang Telecom Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Datang Telecom, bid for the Internet of Things monitoring project in Hujiahe Coal Mine. During this trip, Hujiahe Coal Mine visited Xi’an Datang’s technical strength on the spot, and secondly exchanged their specific requirements and ideas on safety management with Xi’an Datang, hoping that Xi’an Datang will take their requirements into consideration in the design and can meet these requirements. condition.

Xue Shengli, the sales director of Xi’an Datang in charge of the coal business group, received them in the company’s office. For Xue Shengli during the recent period, there have been endless visits like this. “There are more customers from coal mines in Ningmei, China Coal, Yunnan, and Guizhou. Some of them want to expand their original business, some want to consult, and they have all kinds of needs.” Xue Shengli said.

The purpose of attracting people from various coal mines to come from afar is the same as the purpose of Hujiahe Coal Mine, which is aimed at the Internet of Things played by Xi’an Datang.

The Internet of Things is a new concept. Before it was speculated in the second half of 2009, it was classified as coal mine informatization in the coal industry, which was unheard of. The technology companies in the coal system do the most in the coal mine information business, such as the technology company affiliated to the Academy of Coal Sciences. Xi’an Datang is a latecomer.

However, the late Xi’an Datang has its own advantages. The KT101 mine wireless dispatching system independently developed by Xi’an Datang has 6 patented technologies. In May this year, the system won the first prize of Xi’an Science and Technology Progress Award for its obvious advantages compared with similar products. Xue Shengli and 7 other employees also won the first prize of Xi’an Science and Technology Progress Individual for this.

As a witness, Xue Shengli said, “In fact, the first product KT101 was made after we completed the investigation of the development space of the coal informatization market at the end of 2005. After the product is completed, it must pass the coal safety certification, and the safety certification process is very long. Not just any product can be obtained underground, but it may cause new sources of danger underground. In 2007, we obtained the coal safety certification for this product.” Xue Shengli clearly remembers that the day of obtaining the certification was April 11, 2007 day.

Take advantage of telecom technology

Five months later, Xi’an Datang won the first coal mine order and signed a large order of 34.14 million yuan with Shendong Coal Company, a subsidiary of China Shenhua Group, the largest coal company in China.

Daliushu Town, Shenmu County, the northernmost part of Shaanxi, is separated from the Shangwan Town of Yijinhuoluo Banner in Inner Mongolia by the Ulan Mulun River. The headquarters of Shendong Coal Company with an annual output of more than 100 million tons is located here and An unknown small town in northern Shaanxi. However, in 2007, Xue Shengli, then the deputy manager of Xi’an Datang Enterprise Communication Division, tirelessly rushed to this small town next to Inner Mongolia from Xi’an more than a dozen times, communicated with Shendong Coal Information Department, and even went to the mine to understand Product use environment and actual needs, and then return to Xi’an to propose solutions together with colleagues.

Prior to this, the Shendong coal underground dispatching system was undertaken by a company in the coal system. Due to its unprofessional communication technology, many practical problems of coal mine production dispatching have not been solved. The most prominent is the underground communication transmission system.

Underground wireless communication in coal mines faces a series of problems: First, the wireless communication signals on the ground cannot be transmitted to the underground, which means that a new wireless communication base station must be established in the underground; second, the flow of personnel and teams in the underground. From the requirements of production scheduling to maintain unblocked communication on the ground anytime and anywhere, you can’t just rely on fixed telephone lines; third, the large coal mining excavators are constantly advancing, and the contact with the personnel on the excavators cannot be followed by telephone lines. Mobile, and the requirements of modern large-scale production do not allow telephone lines to be dragged in the tunnels of the mine, nor can they be hung above the tunnels following the forward excavator; fourth, the coverage of the communication signal on the ground is scattered around 360 degrees, In the coal mine, some tunnels are straight and need to be covered by communication signals. Some tunnels have many turns. Seven turns and eight bends are like a labyrinth. The communication signals are shielded and require technical adjustments. And all these problems are very difficult for non-communication companies doing informatization, and their technical capabilities cannot meet the requirements of coal mine users.

“At that time, none of the companies engaged in informatization in the coal industry did their own communication products. They all provided general-purpose fixed-line products. Some companies only made minor repairs to fixed-line products and delivered them to coal mines. Of course, users didn’t. Satisfied.” An industry insider said.

The underground wireless communication system of Shendong Coal Mine encountered such obstacles. The automated production technology level of Shenhua Group and its subsidiary Shendong Coal is recognized as the highest in the industry, but the underground communication dispatching system is inconsistent with the overall production management level. The company that previously provided services has left, leaving behind a bunch of technical difficulties. Shendong Coal has an extremely urgent need to re-equip the underground wireless communication system. At this time, Xi’an Datang has just obtained the coal safety certification of the wireless dispatch system for mines, and wants to enter the field of coal mine informatization and use all kinds of contacts to promote it to coal mines.

The appearance of Xi’an Datang in the background of telecommunications in a black coal mine made Shendong Coal’s eyes bright. Liu Jin, general manager of Datang Telecom’s marketing department, told reporters, “At that time, Shendong Coal felt that Xi’an Datang’s communication technology capabilities were very strong, and asked if we could provide unimpeded solutions and subsequent services in underground wireless communication transmission technology? Underground work, overhaul, scheduling, production, and contact with the ground.” Shendong Coal turned its hopes to Xi’an Datang.

The technical requirements proposed by Shendong Coal are not difficult for Xi’an Datang, a professional company in the communications industry. Xi’an Datang carries out technological transformation according to the requirements and characteristics of underground coal mines, plus wireless dispatching functions and platforms. As a result, Shendong Coal was more satisfied with the operating quality of this underground wireless communication system. According to the news, the coal industry has taken a new look at Xi’an Datang, a new entrant.

Full bloom

After taking the first step from Shendong Coal in Daliushu Town, Xi’an Datang conquered the coal information market. It has successively signed orders with Shanxi Pingshuo Anjialing Coal Mine, Shanxi Yangquan Coal Industry Group, Ningxia Coal Industry Group, and Shanxi Coking Coal Group under China Coal Energy, the second largest coal group in China, and quickly started in the coal industry.

The types of products have gradually expanded, from traditional communication services to personnel positioning systems. Production monitoring systems include production transportation and sales management systems, underground tunnel roofs, gas, groundwater, ventilation, and other monitoring systems. Xi’an Datang has become such a supplier of comprehensive coal mine safety production solutions.

Liu Jin explained that coal mines are most concerned about safety in production, and key elements such as underground gas, ventilation, floods, and landslides that easily lead to mine disasters are the focus of monitoring. Once the sensors installed in the mine detect the gas content, exhaust air volume, and groundwater. The water output and the abnormal pressure on the roof are quickly transmitted to the background processing system through the communication network.

The personnel positioning system is now also called the personnel detection system, which is also set up for safety production considerations. There is a product of positioning and launching technology hidden in the hat of every employee who goes down the well, and when they go down the well and at what position, the information will be automatically transmitted through the transmitter. In the event of a danger in the well, the background system knows where he is, and at least can find his location at the moment of danger.

So, are all these coal informatization businesses that Xi’an Datang is engaged in belong to the category of the Internet of Things? The concept of the Internet of Things is also controversial in the coal industry. From August 21 to 26, 2010, at the 20th National Coal Mine Automation and Informatization Academic Conference held in Lanzhou, Sun Jiping, director of the Coal Mine Automation Expert Committee of the China Coal Society and vice president of China University of Mining and Technology, supported the concept of the Internet of Things. He believes that things like underground personnel positioning, safety monitoring, output monitoring, and communication networks belong to the coal mine IoT industry chain.

The Internet of Things industry chain has a three-layer structure. The bottom layer is information collection, such as sensors used to monitor gas and ventilation in coal mines; the middle layer is information transmission, which plays a role in transmitting the collected information safely and quickly; The upper layer is the specific application analysis system. The most common competitors encountered by Xi’an Datang in bidding are technology companies affiliated to the Academy of Coal Mine Sciences. In comparison, companies in the coal mine system understand the needs of coal production and management better, that is, the most in the three-tier structure. The upper level has more advantages. Since Xi’an Datang has an in-depth understanding of telecommunications and communication technology that is not available to technology companies in the coal mine system, it leads the way in the intermediate information transmission layer of the Internet of Things industry chain. In fact, Xi’an Datang was able to enter the completely unfamiliar coal information market at first, and it was the bright spot of its communication technology that attracted coal mine users.

What is not known to outsiders is that Xi’an Datang’s success in the coal informatization market also has comprehensive technical support from its parent company Datang Telecom. For example, M2M modules and smart cards in sensor products come from the microelectronics company under Datang Telecom. During the interview, the reporter also learned that a TD technology sensor wireless product based on Datang Telecom’s independent intellectual property rights has been declared for coal safety certification and is expected to be approved and officially put on the market next year. Not only Xi’an Datang, but the entire Datang Telecom has taken the Internet of Things industry as an important development direction in the future. Subsidiaries involved in multiple links and products of the Internet of Things industry chain, and coordinated development with each other. Liu Jin said, “We hope that in the next five years, the Internet of Things industry will account for 1/3 of the company’s total business revenue.”

The Internet of Things will become a core business of Datang Telecom. Relying on the technology and scale strength of the parent company and brothers and subsidiaries, Xi’an Datang will receive a long-term technical support for the future competitiveness of the Internet of Things in coal mines.
