In 2002, with the help of IDENTEC SOLUTIONS, Deutsche Post applied RFID technology to establish an automatic identification system in 33 freight centers across the country, and realized the automatic tracking function of mail.

The system includes the installation of 66 read-write terminals and approximately 11,000 tags (used to automatically identify containers). The application of radio frequency identification system can fully control the entry and exit of the container in the freight center, and can guide the transportation direction of the container, so that the container is transported to the correct loading location.

Deutsche Post has established a radio frequency identification system for motor vehicles and postal items. This is a system that includes active tags (read or write powered by an internal battery) and has a lot of room for development especially in harsh industrial environments.

Every tagged truck and postal item can be identified. Each tag’s memory includes a 48-bit fixed code that has a constant tag ID number. An additional 56 bytes of storage space is available for user customization. The data memory can complete more than 100,000 write cycles.
