The RFID inventory robot TORY launched by the German robotics company MetraLabs GmbH has recently celebrated its first anniversary. The robot is currently in use at the store of the retail company Adler Modemarkte AG in Erfurt. TORY is the world’s first RFID inventory robot put into practical use. The reading accuracy of this robot is as high as 90%. In addition, the robot can also act as a shopping assistant, guiding customers to the location of the item they are looking for and making recommendations for their purchase.

TORY is one of the most advanced mobile service robots today. The robot has built-in MetraLabs proprietary navigation software, which can move completely autonomously and effectively avoid obstacles. In addition, the robot has a battery life of 12 to 18 hours and a charging time of 4 hours. These features ensure a high return on investment of the equipment.

Roland Leitz, General Manager and Head of IT Department of AdlerModemarkteAG, commented: “We are very satisfied with the TORY results. The robot can automatically and reliably complete inventory counting. In this way, we can optimize the in-store merchandise replenishment and payment process.” Since 2015 Since it was put into use on December 1, the robot has scanned more than 5 million items and moved about 400 kilometers, with an average reading accuracy rate of 99.5%. In the past year, ADLER has put more TORY robots in other stores.

Store employees spoke highly of TORY’s performance. In an interview with German TV station, ADLER store employees said: “Inventory inventory has always been a very difficult task. The robot is a very good tool and it does this job perfectly.”

Due to this technology, the work environment in the future will undergo great changes. Although we don’t know exactly what this will look like, TORY gave us a good example of how cooperation between humans and machines can be successful. Robots will not replace people, but they will help people do some time-consuming and repetitive tasks. In this way, employees have more time to provide services to customers, thereby realizing effective work sharing between people and machines.
