NP Collection uses RFID technology to track the entire clothing supply chain

NP Collection became the first clothing company in Scandinavia (a general term for Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland) to pilot RFID supply chain solutions.

This project was launched in June 2007 with the purpose of improving the operating efficiency of the company’s logistics supply chain. NP Collection is now vigorously expanding its chain stores and sales network around the world, and it needs a powerful supply chain management tool.

NP garments are affixed with RFID tags as soon as they leave the factory to achieve full tracking and data collection in the supply chain.

In the first phase of the project, the clothing was labeled in a European manufacturing plant. From January 2008, NP garments manufactured in China will also be labeled, so that NP Collection can use RFID technology to track all garments.

Using RFID technology, NP Collection can track every stage of the supply chain in real time, greatly saving costs and improving the efficiency of logistics and manufacturing.

The company can know exactly which garments are in production, which are being shipped to Finland, and which retail stores will receive the goods.

In addition to tracking the supply chain, the NP Collection item-level RFID solution also involves receipt, goods distribution, inventory management and cash register functions.

Now, the company can perform inventory counts every day to see which garments are on the shelves and which garments need to be restocked. In retail stores, using real-time product information, shop assistants can plan the use of container space before the goods are delivered.

“We have been paying attention to the development of this technology many years ago. By the beginning of this year, we believe that the right time for application has arrived,” said Risto Rosendahl, director of management at NP Collection.

“After adopting this advanced technology, the processing efficiency of the product has been increased by 10 times, and manual errors have been eliminated. We are expected to achieve a return on investment within 6 months.” He said

The RFID solution adopted by NP Collection is jointly provided by several companies: Finnish companies RDN, Salpomec and Vilant provide integrated services; UPM Raflatac provides tags; SML provides packaging services; ADT provides readers and antennas.
