Finland Metsä Fibre Group uses RFID technology to push pulp management into a new era
The parent company of Metsä Fibre is the world’s leading supplier of baking and cooking paper, Metsä Fibre has brought pulp logistics into a new era through RFID technology. RFID technology helps Metsä Fibre to mark pulp more efficiently and reliably, thereby reducing waste in logistics management. The RFID tags provided by Confidex are inserted into each bundle of pulp, and each bundle of pulp can be fixed in the entire pulp logistics supply chain. It can be read by a forklift or a handheld RFID reader. The writer is provided by Vilant software.
The manufacturing process of pulp and paper puts forward unique requirements for the design of RFID tags. The RFID tag installed on the pulp bale must not only have good radio frequency identification performance, but the material of the tag must also be completely dissolved during the pulping process, and will not have any impact on the subsequent papermaking process. In addition, since some papers are to be used in the field of food packaging, the label must comply with the food contact regulations of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Economic Community (EEC). Due to the above-mentioned special requirements, RFID electronic layers and tags usually made of plastic materials cannot be used in this field.
Confidex’s RFIDPulp Label is a label product specially developed for the pulp and paper industry and meets its standards and special needs. Its applicability in the pulping process has been tested in compliance with various industry standards of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Economic Community (EEC). This high-quality label that conforms to the EPC C1G2 standard can be installed on a pulp bale and can be read stably and reliably by a fixed, handheld or forklift reader.
Metsä Fibre’s pulp labeling project is a successful example of Confidex. The highlight is that there are no standard RFID products on the market suitable for this type of mass production. Confidex has successfully applied its experience and design expertise to this end. The industry has designed professional products to meet various very challenging requirements.
