Finnish radio frequency identification expertTRACKWAY, EB and CONFIDEX Automate part of Nokia tire production process with the most advanced radio frequency identification technology
Tampere, Finland, May 19, 2008-Nokia Tire used a production implementation system based on radio frequency identification technology in its tire production process. This production solution may be Finland’s largest UHF RFID deployment and implementation project to date. This new system is used to schedule, track and control the production of tire tread parts at Nokia’s production plant. In addition, Nokia Tire can now monitor their production in real time and ensure the availability of parts.
In the Finnish market, this project has laid a solid foundation for the full promotion of the adoption of radio frequency identification technology, thereby enabling companies to obtain more benefits. Urpo Rossi, Product Quality Manager of Nokia Tire, commented: “This new solution allows us to update our production process, enabling us to have a more efficient production process and an automatic reporting system. The traceability has been improved to a whole new level and the real-time visibility of inventory has also been increased. This new system is a very good tool for production management, and it also allows us to improve and develop our craftsmanship and expertise .”
Trackway Company delivered the production solution to Nokia Tire Company, and EB Company provided the reader URP1000-ETSI. EB’s readers adapt to the harsh industrial environment by using its network management technology to identify the network. This management technology enables multiple readers at close range to be deployed in a high interference environment and always maintain high data collection performance. The high-availability structure and the selected method are integrated to ensure the scalability of the system. Confidex Survivor™ electronic tags, which are especially suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions, are numbered on the trucks used in the production process to transport rubber surfaces. In this project, Nokia Tire has deployed a total of 40 readers and thousands of electronic tags.
