This year, George Zimmer, the founder of Men’s Wearhouse, founded Generation Tux, a men’s formal wear rental company, to rent formal wear from consumers. He hopes to find a “killer” to defeat competitors. For only $150, customers can rent evening dresses, shirts, shoes, cuff chains, belts, and belts online. Zimmer also worked with designers to create Generation Tux’s own brand clothing. In order to automatically manage the entry and exit of garments in the warehouse, the company is attaching one to each garmentRFIDLabel.

Company CTO Matt Howland said that Generation Tux is the first fully online evening dress rental company. He said: “We decided to take a different path.” The company opened a warehouse in Louisville, Tuckey, that can hold 30,000 sets of dresses, shirts, laces and shoes. The company also attached a passive EPC UHF RFID tag to these items. The tag is attached to the heel of the shoe, sewn into the seam of the trousers or in the mouth of the jacket of the jacket. It is not easy for ordinary customers to find it.

RFID technology helps Generation Tux's daily operations

Howland said that the use of RFID tags has two purposes: to improve the aesthetics of clothing by reducing the use of barcode tags, and to automate inventory and quality control management by ensuring the availability of leased items and rapid distribution.

The RFID software provided by AscentERP binds and stores the unique ID number of the tag and the item details. The collected data will be sent to the Salesforce back-end management software to track the movement and location of items. Generation Tux is unwilling to disclose the specific models of tags and readers.

Howland said that the RFID solution was officially put into use last month. The way the system works is as follows: Consumers visit the Generation Tux’ website, select event categories (such as weddings), and choose clothing based on colors and styles. Then, start measuring the size. The system is equipped with online video tutorials so that consumers can measure dimensions at home. After the measurement, the consumer can confirm the order.

After Generation Tux received the order, it began to enter the warehouse to find specific garments. Then, the company began to pack it into a special wrinkle-free packaging box.

At the same time, the software started to open the order and displayed it on the screen of the packaging station, and the staff placed the box in the RFID tunnel reader. After reading the tag, the reader transmits the information to the software. Then, Salesforce software began to compare the order information and the contents of the box. If an abnormality is found, the software will issue a warning to remind employees. The employee can then put a shipping label in the printed frame on the box.

After checking, the status of the items on the software will be updated synchronously, indicating that the packaging has been completed. Salesforce software can also track the usage of each item (the garment will be discarded after 20 leases).

Usually, these boxes are stacked on top of each other for transportation. When the truck arrives at the loading platform, these items will be placed in the tunnel reader again for reading to check and update the status of the items.

If customers find that the size is abnormal after receiving the garment, they can send feedback, and Generation Tux’s brother company zTailors will exclude a tailor to modify the size on site.

After the customer returns the item, Generation Tux employees will use the RFID reader to read the tag ID, and the system will update its status to returned.

Then, the clothing will be dry-cleaned and pressed. After processing, employees will use a trailer with an on-board RFID reader to return it to the warehouse.

Since the company has just been established, it is currently impossible to compare the effects of the RFID system with other traditional systems. Howland said that there is no doubt that the RFID system reduces scanning time and ensures that the delivery process is error-free.
